Foster started her own label – now called Fosterchild Records - in 2003. Her debut release, Everybody’s Girl, garnered national radio success at the Triple A format, as well as positive reviews, praising her no-frills, unfiltered lyrics. Songwriting awards followed and she has also secured some impressive Film/TV placements, with songs placed in the popular television soap opera All My Children as well as a recent placement in an American Pie movie sequel.
The title track of Foster’s 2006 sophomore CD, The Underdogs, won “Song of the Year” at the Out Music Awards. Foster grew up in a very conservative, Houston, TX, suburb.
Foster credits another outsider, Ani DiFranco, for inspiration in her business model. “Ani did it her way, and she inspired me to do it my way. I’ve created a fairly unique situation. I’ve built a team of people I trust at my label and also, a community of fans,” Foster proudly notes. “It’s always challenging to take off the artist hat and put on the business hat, but it’s a challenge I embrace. My music means too much to me to blindly put it in someone else’s hands.”
Foster’s new album, "Thirty-Nine," was slated for a 2009 release, and a four-song EP, "Songs From Thirty-Nine," is currently available. The video for the single "Closer To Nowhere" recently reached #1 on the LOGO Channel (MTV Network) charts.

I didn't think that you were worth my time
A passing glance my way caught me on a day like today
And all your brilliant colors light up my eyes
I'm falling in
I'm spinning now
I'm trapped in you
And I don't want out
You tangled me up in violets of blue
And you pulled me into your pocket full of poses
I'm captured by you, I am captured by you
You love me, you love me not
I pick a thousand petals and pray that I'll stay in your heart
'Cause you're beautiful as if by design
I am yours, are you mine?
I'm falling in
I'm spinning now
I'm trapped in you
And I don't want out
You drew me into your web of roses
You tangled me up in violets of blue
And you pulled me into your pocket full of poses
I'm captured by you, I am captured by you
And what is it now that you want from me?
You already have everything I tried so hard to keep
And I'm letting go, I'm trusting you, trust in me
I'm falling in
I'm spinning now
I'm trapped in you
And I don't want out
You drew me into your web of roses
You tangled me up in violets of blue
And you pulled me into your pocket full of poses
In Jen Foster's song "Web of Roses," the singer begins by admitting that she never paid attention to the person she is now falling for. She didn't think they were worth her time until one day, she noticed them and their stunning colors. The person has lured her into their "web of roses," which she describes as tangled up in "violets of blue." In other words, she is drawn to this person's beauty and charm.
As the chorus repeats, she admits that she's falling in and spinning around, trapped in this person's grasp, but she doesn't want out. She is captured by them, enamored by their beauty and tricks. She is stuck in their "pocket full of poses," or trapped in the person's intricate plan, and can't seem to escape.
The second verse highlights the singer's newfound vulnerability towards this person. She asks what they want from her when they already have everything she worked so hard to keep. She is letting go of her defenses and trusting them, hoping they will trust her. The chorus then repeats again, emphasizing her entrapment and fascination with the person's web of roses.
Overall, the song delves into the theme of falling for someone unexpectedly and being stuck in their grasp, whether it's in a romantic or platonic sense. The use of colors and natural imagery adds to the whimsical and dreamy atmosphere of the song.
