During her teenage years, she began composing songs. She taught herself guitar. Inspired by the sounds of artists like Tom Waits and Bob Dylan, Gloeckner spent hours in her spare bedroom-turned-recording studio creating her first album. "Most of the songs were written during the recording process," Jen recalls. "I had originally written five or six songs, most of which were scrapped and replaced with new ones." With encouragement from music industry pros like Aaron Jacoves (former A&R vice-president of Virgin, A&M, and Mercury Records) and Derek Birkett (MD One Little Indian Records), her debut album "Miles Away" was released through Spinning Head Records in 2004.

Remember When
Jen Gloeckner Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I used to be free
When I'd climb so I could be
Taller than the trees
When I'd run to feel the breeze
Run till I fell on my knees
And cherish everything, everything I'd see
Cherish everything, everything even me
Do you remember when
The days would never end
And you'd say I was your best friend
And we'd go down to the stream
We'd float on every dream
Floating just you and me
And we'd cherish everything, everything we'd see
We'd cherish everything, everything we'd see
You'd cherish everything, everything even me
The lyrics of Jen Gloeckner's song "Remember When" are nostalgic and wistful, evoking memories of happier times. The singer asks the listener if they remember a time when she was free and uninhibited, climbing trees and running until she fell on her knees. She reminisces about cherishing everything she saw and treasuring even herself. The second verse shifts to a shared memory with someone the singer considers their best friend. The two of them would go down to the stream and float on every dream, cherishing everything they saw, including each other.
The song is a poignant reminder of the importance of cherishing the present moment and the people and experiences that make life meaningful. It is a lament for a lost innocence and a lost connection with the world around us. Through the singer's memories, we are reminded of the beauty of simple pleasures and the profound impact that friendship can have on our lives.
