So Close
Jennette McCurdy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You just keep tuggin, pushin, pullin
On my little heartstrings
Got me all tied up in knots
Anytime I see your face
Oh it brings out
It brings out the girl in me
Don't know just how ya did it
But ya got me real good
Hook, line and sinker
Like I knew you could
But you don't even notice
Boy I wish you would

I can't help myself
I can't help but smile
Every time I see your face
And we've never met
I bet you don't know my name
Am I outta my mind
I think that I might be goin' crazy
Cause my heart is yours to have and hold or break
How'd you get to be so close
When you're so far away

I think you might be close to perfect
Girls you know what I mean
He's got a face straight out
Of a magazine
Gotta pinch myself
To prove he ain't a dream
Oh oh oh

I can't help myself
Now my secrets out
I can't help but smile
Every time I see your face
And we've never met
I bet you don't know my name
Am I outta my mind
I think that I might be goin' crazy
Cause my heart is yours to have and hold or break
How'd you get to be so close
When you're so far away

I wish you were mine all mine
Mine all mine
I wish you were mine all mine
I wish you were mine

I can't help but smile
Every time I see your face
And we've never met
I bet you don't know my name
Am I outta my mind
I think that I might be goin' crazy
Cause my heart is yours to have and hold or break
How'd you get to be so close
When you're so far away

How'd you get to be so close
When you're so far away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Jennette McCurdy's song So Close are about being infatuated with someone who is out of reach. The first verse depicts the way the person tugs, pulls, and pushes on the singer's heartstrings, leaving her feeling tied up in knots. The sight of this person brings out a different side of the singer, one that she doesn't quite understand how he caused. However, despite being hooked, lined, and sinkered to this person, he doesn't even notice her. She wishes that he would give her a little attention.

The chorus repeats the idea of the singer's obsession with this person and how just the sight of him makes her smile. She acknowledges that they have never met and she is possibly losing her sanity over someone who doesn't even know her name. Her heart is his to hold, break or have, but how did he get so close when he is so far away? The second verse describes how the person is almost perfect in every way and appears to be a dream. The singer struggles with this desire and admits that she wishes he was hers.

Overall, this song is relatable to anyone who has experienced an impossible crush. The singer is infatuated with someone who doesn't even realize she exists, which is a common situation for many. The lyrics convey the idea of longing and desperation towards someone who is out of reach.

@manicmoonpie

i remember finding this song when I was like 12 and just loved it! I wondered why she didn’t become a bigger singer but after reading her book, I feel so bad that this isn’t what she actually wanted.

@1keene316

She had such good songs. It's so sad to hear that this wasn't what she actually wanted, and her mom forced her to go into music :(

@huntingfashiondolls3307

@itsmeeeee15

I feel so bad listening to this knowing how she was feeling during those moments :(

@arthurmaryanosouza5915

Yeah. Her mom even didn't allowed her to have a boyfriend.

@@arthurmaryanosouza5915 Of everything that her mom did to her that's like the least worst thing she did. I mean I would also be disapproving if my 18 year old was dating an over 30 year old, but the way her mom treated her of everything and not allowing her to make decisions without controlling and everything her mom did as a child like molesting her as a teenager and showing her how to starve herself is worse then not allowing her to have a boyfriend.

@pokemonmanic3595

@@arthurmaryanosouza5915 Her moms lack of boundaries caused her to fall into a lot of unhealthy relationships

Good Job.
