Love Don't Cost A Thing
Jennifer Lopez Lyrics

Think you gotta keep me iced? You don't
Think I'm gonna spend your cash? I won't
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz? I don't
If I wanna floss, I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

When you rolled up in the Escalade
Saw that dub you gave to the valet
Knew that it was game when you looked at me
Pulling up your sleeve so I could see the Rollie bling
Saw you later in the corner booth
Raising up a toast, so I would notice you
But you're hard to miss
Think you oughta know
Doesn't matter if you're balling out of control

All that matters is
That you treat me right
Give me all the things I need
That money can't buy, yeah

Think you gotta keep me iced, you don't
Think I'm gonna spend your cash, I won't
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz, I don't
If I wanna floss, I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

When I took a chance
Thought you'd understand
Baby, credit cards aren't romance
Still you're tryna buy what's already yours
What I need from you is not available in stores
Seen a side of you that I really feel
Doing way too much, never keep it real
If it doesn't change, gotta hit the road
Now I'm leaving, where's my keys?
I've got to go

All that matters is
That you treat me right
Give me all the things I need
That money can't buy, yeah

Think you gotta keep me iced, you don't
Think I'm gonna spend your cash, I won't (baby)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz, I don't
If I wanna floss, I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

A thing, a thing
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You think the money that you make
Can substitute the time you take
To get the keys into my heart
Then you can win my heart, don't know what's in my heart
I think you need to take some time
To show me that your love is true
There's more than dollar signs in you
Then you can win my heart, and get what's in my heart

Think you gotta keep me iced, you don't
Think I'm gonna spend your cash, I won't
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz, I don't
If I wanna floss, I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

Think you gotta keep me iced, you don't
Think I'm gonna spend your cash, I won't
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz, I don't
If I wanna floss, I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

Think you gotta keep me iced, you don't
Think I'm gonna spend your cash, I won't
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz, I don't
If I wanna floss, I got my own

Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

Overall Meaning

This song by Jennifer Lopez, Love Don't Cost a Thing, is an empowering and self-respecting anthem for women who refuse to be bought with money or material things. It talks about a woman who doesn't care about what her partner has or doesn't have, as long as he treats her right - with love, respect, and appreciation. The lyrics talk about a man who tries to impress her with his material possessions, but the woman doesn't fall for his shallow tactics. She strengthens her resolve with each verse, finally concluding that her love is priceless and cannot be bought with any amount of money.

The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of it. The woman tells her partner that he doesn't have to spend money on her and that she won't be impressed by his material possessions. She makes it clear that what she needs from him are intangible things that cannot be bought with money, like love, respect, attention, and appreciation. The second verse describes a scenario where the man tries to impress the woman with his luxury car and expensive watch, but she remains unimpressed. She recognizes his shallow attempts to impress her and realizes that his material possessions do not define him or their relationship.

The final verses of the song are a message to all men to take a step back and focus on the things that really matter. Money cannot buy love, and material possessions cannot replace the genuine connection that two people share. The woman urges her partner to take time to get to know her, understand her, treat her right, and win her heart with their genuine connection. In essence, the song advises men not to approach relationships as a transaction.

When Jennifer says love dont cost a thing. She means it doesnt cost money. Yet it cost much more. The only way it can be felt is if we free ourself from our own pride. Which is the hardest thing to do for a human being. It can only be achieve with the support of something not human. Our creator. Love doesnt come from outside but within. God is love and we were made by love. We cannot seek what we are, we just have to share it. As soon as thats understood everything falls into place.
