Love Of A Stranger
Jennifer Rush Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No illusions of tomorrow
Not that kind of a love
Keep demanding all of my time
Then you push me and shove
(Sayin') love's illegal love's a liar
Stealin' hearts from the start
See no evil in the fire
Paralyzed by the light

It's the love of a stranger
That can steal your heart
Beware of a danger
When the passion starts
It's the love of a stranger
When the darkness calls
'Cause that love will hold your heart for ransom here
'Til it's gone and leaves you all alone

Stormy weather at the border
Passion burns within
So beware of words of honor
Seems so close to sin

It's the love of a stranger
That can steal your heart
Beware of a danger
When the passion starts
It's the love of a stranger
When the darkness calls
'Cause that love will hold your heart for ransom here
'Til it's gone and leaves you all alone

It's the love of a stranger
That can steal your heart
Beware of a danger
When the passion starts
It's the love of a stranger
When the darkness calls
Beware of a danger
When the passion starts
It's the love of a stranger
That can steal your heart
Beware of a danger
When the passion starts

It's the love of a strange
That can steal your heart'

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jennifer Rush's Love Of A Stranger warn against the dangers of falling in love with a stranger who only brings temporary passion and excitement, but ultimately leaves you alone and heartbroken. The song describes the feeling of being caught up in a fiery, dangerous love that takes over your life, demanding all your time and attention. Yet despite the thrill, the lyrics caution that this kind of love is not real or sustainable, and will ultimately lead to heartbreak.

The phrase "love of a stranger" implies that this kind of love is not based on a deep connection or familiarity, but rather on the novelty and excitement of something new and unknown. The lyrics suggest that this type of love is deceptive and can lead to being taken advantage of or hurt. The phrase "paralyzed by the light" describes the feeling of being so overtaken by the passion and intensity of the love that it becomes difficult to see clearly and make rational decisions.

Overall, the song Love of A Stranger is a cautionary tale about the dangers of being swept up in the excitement of a passionate, but ultimately unstable relationship.

I “missed” Jennifer in her prime—in fact, I only discovered her 3 months ago. I am a
big fan of Celine and only discovered Jennifer because I came across Celine’s cover of Power of Love including Jennifer. I couldn’t believe my ears.
I’m 85 and have heard them all, from Ginger Rogers to Edith Piaf to Vera Lynn. Then Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, and Bonnie Tyler. Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Laura Branigan, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle.
But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian.
She also studied piano and violin at Juilliard. She has written or co-written the lyrics and music for many of her songs, done duets with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Elton John, and Brian May—sorry—Sir Brian May, Michael Bolton, and performed live all over the world—but not in America, except in March and April 1986 on the Carson show and the Dick Clark Show; that’s it.
Why is she the best? Effortless high range: (look at Celine’s cover with Jennifer singing “Power of Love” to see the ease with which Jennifer handles the highest notes.) Listen to “Who Wants to Live Forever” (with or without Brian—Sir Brian—May) as well as “Stronghold”, “Another Way”, “Hero of a Fool”, “I Come Undone”, “Now That It’s Over”, and many more.
With her operatic training (her father, Maurice Stern (Mauro Lampi) and step-mother Rita Loving), she developed a superior vibrato, appropriate body language, and perfect interpretation, and because she wrote or co-wrote most of her songs, she injects them with a personal load of musical endorphins that hit your ears and your heart at the same time.
Yes. If Jennifer had decided to live her life in the US, she would still be in Las Vegas or on tour.

I fell in love with Jennifer ever since I listened to her songs for the first time, back in the 80's and I will always love her.
For me she is the Queen of all voices.
