Abegail Anne
Jeremy Enigk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No time to see where you went, Abegail
Moving throughout dallow water to spill

then crash a wave torn apart on its sail
hope i will see the end one maybe will

open eyes to see at all

I've known you at six feet tall

no time to see where you'll drift, Abegail

wait for

wait for me

wait for
wait for me

wait for
wait for me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jeremy Enigk's song Abegail Anne evoke a sense of longing and mournful yearning for someone who may be lost or gone forever. The opening lines "No time to see where you went, Abegail / Moving throughout dallow water to spill" suggest that Abegail is moving or drifting away, and the singer is unable to keep up or follow her. This theme of separation is reinforced in the lines "then crash a wave torn apart on its sail / hope I will see the end one maybe will," implying that Abegail has been carried away by the current and may not return.

The chorus "wait for me / wait for me / wait for me" is a plea to Abegail to remain in the singer's life, to not disappear completely. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation and sadness, as the singer is left without closure or resolution. The lines "I've known you at six feet tall / no time to see where you'll drift, Abegail" suggest a familiarity and closeness with Abegail, but also a sense of helplessness and uncertainty about her future.

Overall, Abegail Anne is a poignant and evocative song that explores themes of loss, separation, and the fleeting nature of relationships.

Which part? If it's the one I'm thinking of, I believe some of it can actually be heard in the original album version. I'd like to venture a guess at it though:
Time, chasing time
Til I run
Lights go dark
And I'm waiting
Wait for me, wait for...

Merry-go-round their ideas
Lately, things aren't quite the same
Open eyes under your skin
Open eyes go
Open eyes...
(I can't hear you)

@Matthew Ryan yes sir. My dad was really into sunny day when i was a young teenager, particularly william goldsmith's drumming style. There was one particular night when I was 16 when their music clicked for me, after hearing it as background music for years. I was pretty tipsy, had to of been my 3rd time or so drinking alcohol. I guess it calmed me down enough to allow me to sort of meditate on the music, and i've been a huge fan ever since. I guess it's harder for younger listeners to get into such an eccentric style of music, but that's exactly what makes it so special

Matthew Ryan

I grew up listening to him. Since tearing in my heart.

I'm so glad to see a young person be into Jeremy Enigk. Let alone who he is.

Thanks Jeremy, you are certainly a gift from God!!!
