@Runar Lundvall You know, there is a project currently going to remaster Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. They're calling it Skywind (Not Part of Bethesda i think).

They have a volunteer page and one is for recreating the music of Jeremy Soule.

Here is the link if you would like to do something like this.

Again, great work on this.

This is incredible, it really feels like I'm listening to the actual Skyrim soundtrack. Great job, my man!

A really wonderful mockup. What is really interesting about Jeremy Soule and his music for TES that is mostly done with samples + some real solo instruments (at least from what I read about it). So unlike with other mockups you are now trying to sound as good as fake orchestra (although masterfully "faked") made by Jeremy. In general - amazing work!

@Rafal Gosciminski Music false, if you know how to use all of the articulations in the sound libraries, you can get it to sound perfect.

@othrwxrld sampled? Yes. But often note by note without capturing the real human performance. Of course, sample developers put a lot of effort in making transitions between those notes or different articulations sounding more realistic but it's still far from real musicians performing on stage and interacting with each other. At the end this is what makes orchestral music so musical and this is why players are still being hired to record the scores:). This is also why Soule hired real players to perform beautiful melodic solo parts. He knew that none of the sampled instruments can get close to that.

Instrument libraries dont count as a "fake orchestra", they are sampled live..

Just so you both guys know ( If you don't already :D ) , he released few months ago "The Northern Diaries" album. An entire album with his amazing style ( any track would fit well on a TES game ) 100% recorded with sampled instruments. Wonderfull atmospheric and emotional music, kinda absurd to think that was recorded that way :)

I was also not aware of that fact for a long time and couldn't believe it at first but here is the topic about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/3xax7f/did_jeremy_soule_use_a_live_orchestra_for_skyrim/

And a quote from his FAQ kickstarter page as I read there "...My original plan was to rely more heavily on the computers and digital instruments while I would "sweeten" important parts of the scores with live singers and musicians. This is exactly how I made the score for Skyrim. However, as we raise more money, I'm able to replace digital elements with real acoustic performances."

However if you listen to his music closely and think about it... you will actually realize that he didn't force the samples to do anything that samples would not be able to do. Except the Dragonborn (which was done with real orchestra) most of his tracks like the one you mocked up don't contain compilacted phrases, articulations or anything that modern samples couldn't do. You can also hear a lot of reverb and synth pads (as you were right to use those here as well). He sort of blends the synths stuff with orchestral samples without making them pretending the real ones + for more demanding lines that require more expression and realism he used soloists. Anyway I love this soundtrack!:)
