I think the idea is actually great - we love our big brand names for takeaways - McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Dominos etc. We also love Indian (this could also work for Chinese!) food and there's no instantly recognisable takeaway brands on a national basis in that regard, they're all local businesses. However he obviously got the execution very very wrong.

An indian franchise is such a suicidal idea. Indian food is so authentic and unique and there are so kany variations. Depending on what part of india influences the ingrediants and flavours which make many dishes differ from taste between stores. Theres no way a national brand is going to compete against individual indian restruants.
