Love to guide him on his way.
Who's gonna take him home?
Who's gonna take him home?
Mama's gonna take him home
Mama's gonna show him right from wrong.
Advertising Mr. Clean.
Who's gonna take her home?
Who's gonna take her home?
Mama's gonna take her home
Mama's gonna show her right from wrong.
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
Come on, come on.
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
Come on, come on.
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
Come on, come on.
Ooh, I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
I want it, I need it
Come on.
Ev'rybody needs a star
Don't you think we've gone too far?
Who's gonna take us home?
Who's gonna take us home?
Mama's gonna take us home.
The song Mama’s Gonna Take You Home by Jericho Jones starts off by referencing the birth of the “Son of man” and how he needs love to guide him on his way. From this, the song moves into questioning who is going to take the son, Sister Mary and “everybody” home, and then answers that it is going to be Mama who will show them all “right from wrong”. Sister Mary is described as being obscene and advertising Mr. Clean, which could be interpreted as a commentary on the corruption of religion or society in general, using religious imagery to do so. The use of repetition in the chorus emphasizes the importance of Mama’s role in guiding and bringing everyone home.
Overall, the song seems to be a call to return to a pure and moral way of living with Mama as the guiding force. The repeated lyrics “I want it, I need it, come on” could be interpreted as a plea for guidance and direction, which Mama is providing. The use of the second person in the chorus, asking “who’s gonna take you home?” and “who’s gonna take us home?” could be seen as a way to involve and call to the listener to seek guidance from a higher power or authority figure.
