1) Jerry Butler, Jr. (born December 8, 1939 in Sunflower, Mississippi) is an American soul singer also known as "The Ice Man" because of his cool demeanour while singing often intensely emotional lyrics.
Butler was dubbed the "Iceman" by a Philadelphia disc jockey while performing in a Philadelphia theater. However, Butler achieved what eluded many earlier Doo Wop groups during the 1950s and 1960s — longevity. Butler’s solo career had a string of hits, including "He Will Break Your Heart," "Moon River," "Make It Easy On Yourself," "Let It Be Me" (the Everly Brothers classic re-done as a duet with Betty Everett), "Brand New Me," "Ain’t Understanding Mellow," (duet with Brenda Lee Eager), and "Never Gonna Give You Up," followed by two hugely successful albums The Iceman Cometh in 1968 and Ice On Ice in 1970. The Iceman Cometh garnered Butler three Grammy nominations. Jerry Butler further made recordings for Philadelphia International Records in the 80's. His most noted song for the label was "Cooling Out"
How Did We Lose It Baby

And inspiration to our friends
If lovers had a Nobel Prize
I'm sure that we would win
And, girl, with all that's going
For us just this very day
You come out here and tell me
I gotta know
How did we lose it, baby
How did we lose our love
How did we lose it, baby
How did we lose it, darling
We had it just a moment ago
It was right here
In the palm of our hand
Now I'm asking you and
You tell me you don't know
Oh, it would be a miracle
If we ever got it back
It'll be like finding
A needle in a haystack
How did we lose it, baby
(How did we lose it, baby)
(How did we lose it, baby)
(How did we lose it, baby)
What do you mean
Talking like you're talking
Girl, I gave you all my love
It's too late to be walking
Now listen, you turn around
Here to me and you better tell me
How did we lose it, baby
How did we lose
(How did we lose it, baby)
All that we had going for us
How did we lose it, baby
We gotta find a way
To pull it back together
Girl, love's grown cold like?
And I don't wanna
Leave this love behind
A true style love is hard to find
Let me put this on your mind, oh
How did we lose it
How did we lose it, baby
You been my whole world
You know you have, girl
Down here on my knees
(How did we lose it
How did we lose it)
Help me find it, please
(How did we lose it
How did we lose it)
Please, baby
(How did we lose it
How did we lose it)
How did we lose it, baby
(How did we lose it
How did we lose it)
Oh, how did we lose it, baby
How did we lose it, baby
How did we lose our love
(How did we lose it, baby)
I thought we had it right here
And I thought it would always be
Now I find myself...
The song "How Did We Lose It Baby" by Jerry Butler is a soulful ballad that expresses the singer's confusion and frustration over the sudden loss of a once-great love. The lyrics are simple and straightforward, telling the story of a couple who were once deeply in love and had everything going for them, but who have now somehow lost their way. The singer pleads with his partner to help him understand how they could have gone from being so close to being so far apart, and to work with him to find a way to put their love back together.
At its heart, this song is a meditation on the mysterious and often inexplicable nature of love. The singer is clearly at a loss as to how his relationship could have gone so wrong, and he is desperate to find a way to recapture the passion and affection that he and his partner once shared. This theme of lost love and the quest to regain it is one that has resonated with audiences for generations, and it is one that continues to be explored in music, literature, and film today.

For us just this very day

Talking like you're talking
Saying the things you're saying
Girl, I gave you all my love
All my love, I gave to you
It's too late to be walking
