1) Jerry Butler, Jr. (born December 8, 1939 in Sunflower, Mississippi) is an American soul singer also known as "The Ice Man" because of his cool demeanour while singing often intensely emotional lyrics.
Butler was dubbed the "Iceman" by a Philadelphia disc jockey while performing in a Philadelphia theater. However, Butler achieved what eluded many earlier Doo Wop groups during the 1950s and 1960s — longevity. Butler’s solo career had a string of hits, including "He Will Break Your Heart," "Moon River," "Make It Easy On Yourself," "Let It Be Me" (the Everly Brothers classic re-done as a duet with Betty Everett), "Brand New Me," "Ain’t Understanding Mellow," (duet with Brenda Lee Eager), and "Never Gonna Give You Up," followed by two hugely successful albums The Iceman Cometh in 1968 and Ice On Ice in 1970. The Iceman Cometh garnered Butler three Grammy nominations. Jerry Butler further made recordings for Philadelphia International Records in the 80's. His most noted song for the label was "Cooling Out"
Walk Easy My Son

(Just a small boy)
Looked through the cornfields
And wonder (oh, I wondered)
If every man had his own piece of land
So he'd never know hunger
Oh, the time quickly rode along
And I left home, Lord knows
I'm sorry I ever left
I see people starving to death
You walk easy, my son (easy)
That's what my daddy said to me
Said, you be a man
And you learn all you can
? And you'll be free
Oh, I remember one rainy day back home
(I remember) Sally Brown's house
Burned down (yes, it did now) and
Everybody had to lend a helping hand
Folks came from miles around
They didn't do this
Expecting something in return
They simply did it because they cared
And these were the kind of folk
If they had anything at all
They were more than willing to share
And Daddy said, you walk easy, boy
(Walk easy) yeah, and when your
Trouble get to falling like rain
(You gotta walk easy)
Hey, I want you to understand
You keep on stepping, man
Cause it'll only bring you cold?
And now that I'm out here
In this big old world
I hear strange world like pollution
And I see a man that needs
A helping hand have to go somewhere
To find his own solution
Oh, my Lord, how this
Whole world had changed
I say, God, save us all
Yeah, I hate the day that I ever came
This world is heading
For a great big fall
And you walk easy, son (easy)
Yeah, that's what my Daddy
Said to me, he said
You know you can't trust everyone
Cause it will only bring you misery
You walk easy, my son (easy)
And when your trouble get
To falling like rain, oh
Don't you try to trust everybody, child
Cause it will only bring you pain
The lyrics of Jerry Butler's song "Walk Easy My Son" are filled with poignant advice and reflection from the singer's experiences of growing up and observing the world around him. The song starts with the singer recalling his childhood, where he harboured a wish for every man to have his own piece of land so that no one would have to experience hunger. The lyrics then transition to the present day, where the singer sees people starving to death and the world grappling with issues like pollution. Throughout these changes, the singer's father's words "Walk easy, my son" remain a constant refrain.
The singer's father urges him to learn all that he can so that he can be a man and be free. He advises the singer to keep moving forward despite troubles falling like rain, but to not blindly trust everyone he meets. As the song progresses, the singer comes to the realization that the world is far from perfect and is heading towards a big fall. However, he still holds on to his father's wise words and encourages his son to take them to heart as well.
The song is a powerful reminder of the importance of education and learning, the value of lending a helping hand, and the need to be cautious of the world around us. It is a call to action, urging listeners to be kind and compassionate towards others and to always keep moving forward despite the challenges they may face.

When I was a very small boy
Back when I was a young child
(Just a small boy)
I was still very young at this point
Looked through the cornfields
I remember staring at the cornfields
And wonder (oh, I wondered)
And I used to wonder
If every man had his own piece of land
If every person had their own land to live on
So he'd never know hunger
So they would never go hungry
Oh, the time quickly rode along
But time passed quickly
(Yes, it did now) I grew up
And before I knew it, I was all grown up
And I left home, Lord knows
I left my childhood home, and only God knows
I'm sorry I ever left
I regret leaving home
I see people starving to death
Because all around me, I see people who are starving
You walk easy, my son (easy)
My father gave me advice to take life easy
That's what my daddy said to me
My father told me this
Said, you be a man
He told me to be responsible
And you learn all you can
And to always keep learning

People came from far away to help
They didn't do this
They didn't do this act of kindness
Expecting something in return
Expecting anything in return
They simply did it because they cared
They did it purely out of kindness
And these were the kind of folk
These were people who were
If they had anything at all
If they had anything to give
They were more than willing to share
They were happy to share it with others
And Daddy said, you walk easy, boy
And my father used to tell me to take life easy

Hey, I want you to understand
I want you to know
You keep on stepping, man
To not give up and keep going
Cause it'll only bring you cold?
Because quitting will only lead to regret
And now that I'm out here
Now that I'm grown and not at home anymore
In this big old world
In this wide and vast world
I hear strange world like pollution
I hear things like pollution, things that are abnormal
And I see a man that needs
I witness a man in need of help
A helping hand have to go somewhere
But unfortunately, they have to go out of their way to find it
To find his own solution
To find an answer to their problems

The entire world has changed

For a major disaster

Yeah, that's what my Daddy
That's what my father
Said to me, he said
Told me this advice once
You know you can't trust everyone
He warned me that not everyone is trustworthy
Cause it will only bring you misery
Because trusting everyone will lead to disappointment and pain
You walk easy, my son (easy)
So take it easy, that was his advice
And when your trouble get
When times are tough
To falling like rain, oh
When the problems keep coming
Don't you try to trust everybody, child
Don't trust everyone, my child
Cause it will only bring you pain
It will only bring you grief
