Future
Jerry Jean Lyrics

In our command
Almost magic
Used it all up
Nothing left for us
Old cities turned to rot
Kept taking what we should not
So the decay's a little faster
With our minds plugged into VR
We don't even drive our own car
It's all just a little bizarre
What we've made
Have we gone too far
Welcome to the future
Living under glass
Transported
Blue and green didn't last
It's ok
I still see
I still feel
I still breathe
With a screen over my eyes
Nothing really hurts
Nothing dies in the future
All who roamed the land
Were second to man
Consumed until gone
We had to move on
Leave where we came from
Cured disease
Made some more
Invented needs where there were none before
Automated life
Mechanized living
Can we endure
With our minds plugged into VR
We don't even drive our own car
It's all just a little bizarre
What we've made
Have we gone too far
Welcome to the future
Living under glass
Transported
Blue and green didn't last
It's ok
I still see
I still feel
I still breathe
With a screen over my eyes
Nothing really hurts
Nothing dies in the future
Welcome to the future
Living under glass
Transported
Blue and green didn't last
It's ok
I still see
I still feel
I still breathe
With a screen over my eyes
Nothing really hurts
Nothing dies in the future
The song "Future" by Jerry Jean is a cautionary tale about the consequences of humanity's reckless and unsustainable behavior. The opening lines, "All the world in our hands, In our command, Almost magic," suggest that humans have an incredible power to shape their environment and the world around them. However, the following lines, "Used it all up, Nothing left for us, Old cities turned to rot," indicate that humans have ruthlessly exploited the earth's resources without regard for the consequences. The line "Kept taking what we should not" acknowledges that humans have taken more than they need and have not given back to the planet.
The song also explores the idea of living in a highly advanced technological society. Lines like "With our minds plugged into VR, We don't even drive our own car," portray a future that is not too far off from our current reality. However, the consequences of this technological advancement are uncertain, as the line "Have we gone too far?" suggests. The chorus of the song is a reverie to the future, where we see a world that is not only highly dependent on technology but also one where nature has been replaced by artificial structures. The lines "Welcome to the future, Living under glass, Transported, Blue and green didn't last," paint a picture of a world that is highly structured and devoid of the natural beauty that we currently enjoy. The final lines, "With a screen over my eyes, Nothing really hurts, Nothing dies in the future," suggest that the future has become a world where human emotions and experiences are blunted by technology.
