He is best known for his 1959 million selling record, "Here Comes Summer.Born in Arkansas, Keller's family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma when he was aged six,[2] and Keller attended Tulsa's Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1955. He was known as a vocal soloist in various school productions, and was often invited to do guest vocals with top bands touring the area. He formed 'The Lads of Note' quartet in his teens, joined the Tulsa Boy Singers and toured the Midwest.[2] Keller was educated at the University of Tulsa. He moved to New York in 1956, and Pat Boone who attended the same church as Keller, sent him to see Marty Mills who became Keller's manager.[2]
Keller's biggest self-penned hit was 1959's "Here Comes Summer." It climbed to #14 in the Billboard Hot 100. The record reached number one in the UK the same year,[3] but lack of further chart appearances branded Keller as a one hit wonder. "Here Comes Summer" ironically reached the number one spot in the UK in the Autumn of 1959.[4]
He also co-wrote the song "A Man and a Woman", which was recorded by such artists as Matt Monro, Ella Fitzgerald, Engelbert Humperdinck, Johnny Mathis and José Feliciano.[5] In addition he co-penned "Almost There", a successful single for Andy Williams, plus "How Does It Go?" recorded in 1965 by Ricky Nelson.
In the film arena, Keller wrote soundtrack music for I Saw What You Did (1965). The Legend of Sheandoah recited by James Stewart in Shenandoah (1965) and Angel in My Pocket (1969).
Keller went on to be a number one call vocalist for television jingles throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He also had cameo role as the orchestra music director in the 1977 film You Light Up My Life.[4]

It's the first day of summer 2021 and this song started playing in my mind so I came here to find it! I was only 7 when it came out but I must have heard it on the radio cause I think of it each summer. When I hear it now and reflect on the melody and lyrics I AGAIN understand how truly fortunate I was to grow up then. I expect we tend to make the past better as we grow older- but dear God, compared with today, it really WAS a truer, simpler, stronger, kinder and more decent time.

Song is great but modern 2 stroke power diesel is much more torque than any 50's pos car anyday, just look at the military 6v53 2 stroke detroit at over 400hp and 700 ft lbs of torque. not one 50's hot rod compares to a modern diesel!, Most cummins, duramax and powerstroke will destroy anything from the 50's anyday with power and torque period!

Jerome - have you got your sums right you'd only be about 12 when this was at the top In 1959? Or perhaps you didn't hear it until years later. I was 16 in England and just finished all those exams and left school. And yes there was a girl! ♥️ 3 months later in October I got a job. But this WAS Summer and full of the best music both sides of the Atlantic! Now 76 and have no chance of understanding this crazy world! Today is the first day of summer and I would like to honor it with a song that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED as a 13 year old boy graduating from the eighth grade. This one like many others has special memories. I thought about this song today, I have the 45 and this one brings me right back to the summertime of 1959. These songs remind me of Saturday Morning Kids cinema in the late fifties/early sixties(UK). I used to go every Saturday. They'd play these songs in the interval. Funny how some stick in your mind. Like Petula Clarke's "Sailor" and "Romeo" as well. I was born in 1952, where do the years go?. Nice to have these memories.

This and Summertime by The Jaimies marked The Summer arrival. Jerry is a friend of Pat Boone who helped him get a recording contract. Note the similar relaxed style. Jerry also wrote The Cyrkle's hit record Turn Down Day. He is the vocalist for many TV jingles in the 70's - 80's. He is now 85 yrs old.

even if this summer is not going the be the same as we are used too....its still going to be summer in a week....and how can that ever be a bad thing...i had some of the best times in my life during the summer months...even if we never had any money i still went to see my great hero Mickey Mantle at the old Yankee Stadium my brother and i would jump on the fresh air fund bus and my old man would give us both a quarter and we would sit in the bleachers and call out to Mickey and once he actually turned around and waved to us kids....i think he must of know we were the poor kids..who loved him...

A top hit in 1958, it conjures up images of American Graffiti - fast cars, drive-ins, malt shops, chicks in convertibles. It was the tail end of the so-called innocent days of the Eisenhower 1950s, when life seemed simpler, at least compared with today. Oh, to be young in that summer of '58, cruzin' along in your Chevy Bel Air, your steady by your side, and "Here Comes Summer" blasting from your top-40 radio station. Did it get any better than that? One of my favorite summer songs, up there with Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime." Of course, by 1970, the year of its release, so much had changed and not all for the better.
