How the Time Flies
Jerry Wallace Lyrics

(Dickey-doo-oo-oo-oo) (Dickey-doo-oo-oo-oo)
(Dickey-doo-oo-oo) (Locka-day-ay)

How the time flies
When I'm near you
When I'm near you
How the time flies
Seems like heaven
When I'm near you
When I'm near you
How the time flies

Wonder why when we're alone
The hours always pass so fast
A kiss or two, and then you're gone
Gee, the time just doesn't last

If the night would never pass
And the sun would never rise
Not one moment would we waste
But, darling, how the time - it flies

How the time flies
When I'm near you
When I'm near you
How the time flies

(Dickey-doo-oo-oo-oo) (Dickey-doo-oo-oo-oo)
(Dickey-doo-oo-oo) (Locka-day-ay)

How the time flies
When I'm near you
When I'm near you
How the time flies

(How the time flies)

Overall Meaning

The song "How the Time Flies" by Jerry Wallace is a nostalgic ode to the fleeting moments spent with a loved one. The opening refrain, "Dickey-doo-oo-oo-oo" and "Locka-day-ay" set a playful, lighthearted tone. The lyrics then express the feeling of time passing quickly when the singer is near his lover. The imagery is peaceful and almost dreamlike, as the singer finds himself in a state of bliss while with his partner.

The song then addresses the way time seems to move slowly when we are not near our loved ones. The singer wonders why this is, and muses that even a kiss can make time fly by. The sentiment is simple, and yet poignant in its depiction of a love that makes every moment meaningful. The singer reflects that if time could stand still with his lover, they would waste no moment, but the reality is that "how the time - it flies."

Overall, Jerry Wallace's "How the Time Flies" captures the bittersweet feeling of experiencing time passing too quickly in the presence of love. The upbeat melody and catchy refrain enhance the romantic essence of the song, as the singer celebrates the precious moments he shares with his partner.

I bought this 45 when I was ten. It still sends me. Love the b.g. vocals. "Dickie-doo". Great sax, and the unique use of the trumpet in the final 4 of solo is a killer. As for Jerry. What a wonderful singer. He went on to have a great country career, but he was obviously influenced by R&B balladeers like Nat Cole and Ivory Joe Hunter, producing a tone in his upper range like a breathy tenor sax. The way he smoothly switches to bass is uncanny. From downbeat to the end this is one great record.

I agree with you. The Jewels back ground sound is excellent to this tune.

This song just crept into my mind. I remember it when I was but a kid. I am so happy I found it.
