In 2001, while working at a recording studio in LA, Jes met Mike Olson. The two formed Guardians of the Earth, which was a former successful on MP3.com with songs like Starchildren and One Moon Circling. Starchildren was included on Paul van Dyk’s 2001 Ministry of Sound compilation, The Politics of Dancing. Jes has also collaborated with producers such as D:Fuse, Deepsky and Solar Stone, producing tracks like Living The Dream, Ghost, and Like A Waterfall. The latter track appears on the compilation album In Search of Sunrise 4 by Tiësto, who she also appeared alongside with on selected dates during his Tiësto In Concert Tour.
Jes's most well known work to date is her collaboration with Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden (of Gabriel & Dresden), which led to the formation of the group Motorcycle. Their 2003 hit As the Rush Comes was a number one single on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart in 2004, on which it also became the first year-end number one Dance Airplay track of the same year. As the Rush Comes gave Jes international exposure, which then allowed her to perform in larger venues and festivals like Bacardi Festival (Lebanon), Fresh (Malta), World Electronic Music Festival (Toronto), Escape In The Park (Wales), Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and Red Rocks Amphitheatre (Denver).
In 2006, the song Ghost was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Working with producers Steve Sidelnyk and Sean Spuehler, Jes recorded her debut solo album Disconnect, which was released in August 2007 on Tiësto’s Black Hole Recordings and Magik Muzik.

Medicine
Jes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To keep us away and hidden
We can only see the sunset
We never see the sunrise
In our funny little homes
We're really quite alone
We're just a sitting target
Sunrise
Sunset
The medicine is all we need
The lyrics of Jesu's song Medicine are quite abstract and open to interpretation. One possible interpretation is that the "medicine" referred to in the song is a metaphor for something that people use to escape reality or numb their pain. This could be drugs, alcohol, or even distractions like social media or binge-watching TV shows. The lyrics suggest that using these coping mechanisms may provide temporary relief, but ultimately they keep us "away and hidden" from truly experiencing life.
The second verse paints a picture of isolation and loneliness - the "funny little homes" represent a small, confined space where people feel trapped and disconnected from the world around them. The line "We're just a sitting target for your superiority" could be interpreted as commentary on societal pressures to conform to a certain standard or image, which can leave people feeling inadequate and helpless. The repetition of "sunrise/sunset" in the chorus could symbolize the cyclical nature of life, and perhaps the idea that we need to break out of our routines and patterns in order to truly experience everything that life has to offer.
Overall, the lyrics to Medicine seem to be a contemplation on the human experience and the ways in which we try to deal with the challenges and struggles that come with it. The song encourages us to break out of our comfort zones and seek out new experiences in order to truly embrace life.
