Here follows the biography of Jess McAvoy, the musician.
“Let me make it easier for you; forget the rest, Jess McAvoy is one of the best.”
Clem Bastow, The Age, Melbourne
Born in Perth, Western Australia, the most isolated city in the world, Jess McAvoy is the quintessential Aussie Battler. She’s played at Weddings, Pubs, Theatres, Clubs, Festivals, In Church halls and meeting rooms, on a train, and even in a maximum-security prison.
McAvoy, a beautiful, self-deprecating and unfairly talented performer has been attracting rave reviews for the 15+ years that she has been firmly embedded in the Australian music industry.
A live performer since 16, McAvoy has wowed and won over audiences in Australia and abroad with her sophisticated, hook – laden urban folk genius and her raw, passionate and powerful performances.
“… a ballsy frontwoman…one of Melbourne’s most beloved and consistent performers.”
- Inpress Magazine
A self- managed artist who produces her own albums, released on her own label, ‘Henduwin’, McAvoy’s commitment to the independent ethos and involvement in the local music community has been a touchstone for many new artists.
Her impressive list of both international and high profile Australian supports (too many to mention) and festival appearances (Woodford Folk Festival, The Falls Festival, Pyramid Rock, Chill Island, Wave Rock, Make Poverty History and more) are proof that you can make it on merit without the power of a major label behind you.
Jess’ international adventures already include performances in New York at the famed Knitting Factory, the Rockwood Music Hall and CBGBs with repeat performances at the Bitter End. In 2008 Jess Released her third full length studio album “As the Sun Falls” toted her finest work to date, which received rave reviews across Australia and continues to spread across the world.
“An album to treasure.”
Nick Snelling, Beat Magazine
“…her best album to date…. Thumbs up to a very cool album filled with plenty of verve.”
Kaz Mitchell, Inpress Melbourne, Drum Media Sydney
“…there’s a real sense of sophistication in the songwriting… the sort Delta and Missy still strive for but miss as they lack McAvoy’s soul.” Bernard Zuel, The Sydney Morning Herald
July 2011 saw Jess McAvoy short- listed for the APRA Professional Development Awards ahead of her farewell of the Australian music scene with a phenomenal sell out send off at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne with guest performances by Melbourne’s A list of performers including her dear friend Wally DeBacker a.k.a Gotye.
McAvoy is now settled in Toronto and visiting New York City regularly, preparing to move to New York later in 2013. She is currently working on a new rock project “JESMAQ and the THUMP” which is set to debut in March 2013. A new Jess McAvoy record is slated for release in June 2013.

And it feels so strange to just let this evening end
But we can spend this evening looking around
And spend the next morning laughing about what we found
And you're making just enough noise for me to see
That you're gonna be whatever you want to be
And whether you leave or stay around here with me
That it's gonna be
Easy
Easy
Swing by my place on your way home and pick up a few of your things
Give me a week or two and I'm sure I'll forget some more
I'll stop by your house in an hour, I know I won't have to ring
I'm sure we'll find something to do as soon as I walk in the door
And you're making just enough noise for me to see
That you're gonna be whatever you want to be
And whether you leave or stay around here with me
Sooner or later you'll wake up one morning and see
That it's gonna be
Easy
Easy
So mirror me when I smile at you and finish my sentence again
It's effortless just to be around you, I never have to pretend
And laughing with you
Is so
Easy
Easy
Easy
The song "Easy" by Jess McAvoy talks about the ease of being with someone that doesn't need materialistic things to enjoy their time together. The singer starts by saying they don't have any money to send, and it feels strange to let the evening end but suggests that they can spend the rest of the evening looking around and spend the next morning laughing about what they found. The singer then suggests to the listener to swing by their place and pick up a few things and that they'll forget some more as time goes on. The singer feels comfortable enough to stop by the listener's place within an hour without having to ring and believes that they'll find something to do as soon as they walk in. The singer and the listener are at ease with each other; therefore, laughter is effortless, and being with each other is easy.
The chorus repeats that the singer has no doubts that the listener will be whatever they want to be and whether they leave or stay, sooner or later, they'll wake up one morning and see that it's going to be easy. Towards the end of the song, the singer requests the listener to mirror them when they smile and to finish their sentence. Being around the listener is effortless; the singer doesn't have to pretend as laughing with the listener is smooth and easy.
Overall, the song talks about how being with someone can be easy, and building a relationship doesn't need materialism. It suggests that if you find someone who can make you laugh, mirror you, and finish your sentences, you don't need anything else.
