While on tour with Jackyl, Dupree played some new tunes to his old Geffen friend Lorren Cornelius who now worked with the independant label V2. Cornelius was so impressed that the label signed Dupree and a band and album were put together while Jackyl was on hiatus. The group consisted of guitarist John Hayes (a member of Mother's Finest who had also cowritten some Jackyl songs such as "I Stand Alone"), former Brother Cane bassist Roman Glick and studio drummer Tony Belser.
Foot Fetish was released to mixed reviews while drummer John Skinner was brought in for the tour that consisted of opening gigs for such rock heavyweights as Queensrÿche and Stone Temple Pilots.
However in early 2001 Jackyl reformed (with Glick) and the Jesse James Dupree band was put on ice.
In 2023, Jesse James Dupree announced details of his new studio album, titled Breathing Fire. The lead track, “Never Gets Old,” is co-written with AC/DC’s Brian Johnson. The recording features Jesse, with his son Nigel on drums, and Jackyl bandmate Roman Glick on bass.
Second Chance

Everything is off my back
Except everything I won
Walking out through that door
Left me with nothing more
Nothing more than a second chance
It's a long long road
As I try to get a leg up
As they push me down
Whether it was now or then
On and on again and again
Ew there's that second chance
You only get one second chance
All I need is a second chance
Cause you have failed to convince me
That I'm all I'll ever be
And you have failed to convince me
That I'm going down
But if I'm going down I'm taking you with me
Ah nothing more than a second chance
Only get on second chance
All I need is a second chance
On my way way
But I know that the sun don't shine
On the Sam dog's ass everyday
Ew there's a second chance
All you need is a second chance
You only get one second chance
You have to take a second chance
In the lyrics of Jesse James Dupree’s song Second Chance, the singer is expressing a sense of liberation and determination after having emerged from a difficult situation. He or she is surrounded by a sense of newfound freedom, with the burden of the past having been lifted off his or her back. The singer emphasizes the importance of seizing the opportunity that has been presented to him or her, which is represented by the “second chance” mentioned throughout the song. The singer also seems to have unresolved issues with someone, as there is a repeated reference to wanting to take that person “down” with him or her if he or she fails.
The lyrics describe the difficulties and obstacles that the singer has faced, both in the past and present. From the language used, it is clear that the singer has been pushed down many times before, but despite this, believes that he or she can overcome anything with a little perseverance. The “second chance” mentioned in the chorus may refer to an opportunity to start over, to right past wrongs, or to prove oneself once more. Overall, the song’s message is one of hope and determination in the face of adversity.
