Released by Hollywood Records on September 19, 2006, the album reached number 14 on the Billboard 200. The lead single from the album, Right Where You Want Me, began receiving airplay on July 11, 2006. McCartney released his third album, Departure, on May 20, 2008 in the United States and Canada. Musically, it is a departure from his early works, showing mature themes. The album has reached number 14 on the Billboard 200. The album's lead single Leavin' was released in March 2008, and reached number (10) on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, giving McCartney his highest-charting single to date. The single has been certified platinum by the RIAA selling over than 3 millions copies ,and over 2 millions downloads on iTunes, thus becoming McCartney's highest-certified single as of early 2009. The second single, It's Over, was released on August 26, 2008, and failed to match the success of the lead single, only reaching #42 on the Hot 100. McCartney promoted Departure on a co-headlining tour with Jordin Sparks, which began in August 2008 and ended in September. He also did solo shows at theaters and small venues to support the album while on tour with Sparks.
McCartney re-released Departure on April 7, 2009. The re-release, Departure: Recharged, featured 4 new songs, Body Language, Oxygen, Crash & Burn and In My Veins. I was color-blinded
Nothing was real, no no no
I was just a blank page
You colored in the lines, baby
It's so surreal
You saved me
Now I live in Technicolor
I don't want to be without you
Livin' in a world with no view
What the hell would I do, would I do?
No clue, I need you
In Technicolor
I don't want to be without you
Livin' in a world with no view
What the hell would I do, would I do?
No clue, I need you

Give me red, give me red, give me romance
You change my color, baby, every time you give me that
Ohh, ooooooh
I'll run away with you, baby
I'll run away with you
'Cause with you the spectrum's never been so clear
You saved me
You took my life from black and white
Now I live in Technicolor
I don't want to be without you
Livin' in a world with no view
What the hell would I do, would I do?
No clue, I need you

Jesse McCartney’s song In Technicolor Part II is a love song that speaks about how the singer was once color-blind, seeing nothing real or worthwhile in his mundane and monochromatic life until he was saved by the love of his life. He was just a blank page, but she came and colored in the lines, making him feel alive and happy. The phrase “color in the lines” could be interpreted as a metaphor for how his partner created order and structure in his life, making him a better person. The song describes how the love he has for his partner has given him a sense of completeness and purpose, changing his ordinary life into something technicolor.
The chorus repeats the sentiment that he doesn't want to be without her in a world without any view, as it would be pointless without her by his side. The song's final lines are a plea for her to never leave him, as she’s the only one who can make him feel alive and in color. The song's melody and sound are perfect for a romantic ballad, with its smooth guitar riffs and gentle vocals.
