The lead single from the album, Right Where You Want Me, began receiving airplay on July 11, 2006. McCartney released his third album, Departure, on May 20, 2008 in the United States and Canada. Musically, it is a departure from his early works, showing mature themes. The album has reached number 14 on the Billboard 200. The album's lead single Leavin' was released in March 2008, and reached number (10) on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, giving McCartney his highest-charting single to date. I just can't turn away
I shouldn't see you but I can't move
I can't look away
I shouldn't love you but I want to
I just can't turn away
I shouldn't see you but I can't move
And I don't know
How to be fine when I'm not
'Cause I don't know
How to make a feeling stop
Just so you know
This feeling's takin' control of me
And I can't help it
I won't sit around
I can't let him win now
Thought you should know
I've tried my best to let go
Of you but I don't want to
I just gotta say it all before I go
Just so you know
It's gettin' hard to be around you
There's so much I can't say
Do you want me to hide the feelings
And look the other away
And I don't know
How to be fine when I'm not
'Cause I don't know
How to make a feeling stop
Just so you know
This feeling's takin' control of me
And I can't help it
I won't sit around
I can't let him win now
Thought you should know
I've tried my best to let go
Of you but I don't want to
I just gotta say it all before I go
Just so you know
This emptiness is killin' me
And I'm wonderin' why I've waited so long
Lookin' back I realize it was always there
Just never spoken
I'm waitin' here
Been waitin' here
Just so you know
This feeling's takin' control of me
And I can't help it
I won't sit around
I can't let him win now
Thought you should know
I've tried my best to let go
Of you but I don't want to
Just gotta say it all before I go
Just so you know, just so you know
Thought you should know
I've tried my best to let go
Of you but I don't want to
Just gotta say it all before I go
Just so you know, just so you know
Jesse McCartney's "Just So You Know" is a track about confessing one's love despite the acceptance of being rejected. "I shouldn't love you but I want to" shows the central theme of making the singer aware of his feelings of love but the conflict of the other person who cannot reciprocate the same. The lyrics display an internal struggle within the singer, who is unable to move forward and is stuck with the constant play of emotions inside him. The structure of the song conveys the same conflict, with the verse and chorus sections having repeated lines, which indicate a pattern of back and forth in the singer's emotional state.
The lyrics showcase the perspective of someone who is unsure of their future, while the theme of unrequited love forms the central premise in the song. It signals the message that expressing love is not easy, and that even being aware of the consequences and the unrequited feelings of the person you love can make it harder to let go. The song opens a dialogue on the subjectivity of love and the power of vulnerability, ultimately revealing the truth that it takes courage to love, even when there is a risk of being rejected.
