After the filming of his movie, Keith, wrapped, McCartney worked on his second album, Right Where You Want Me, co-writing all but one of the songs featured in it. Right Where You Want Me is more mature than his debut, reflecting his musical and personal growth since he recorded his debut album at age 15. Released by Hollywood Records on September 19, 2006, the album reached number 14 on the Billboard 200. The lead single from the album, Right Where You Want Me, began receiving airplay on July 11, 2006. Although his manager stated he will not be launching a new tour due to insufficient support from his record company, McCartney has done various shows in Italy as well as the United States.
McCartney released his third album, Departure, on May 20, 2008 in the United States and Canada. Musically, it is a departure from his early works, showing mature themes. The album has reached number 14 on the Billboard 200. The album's lead single Leavin' was released in March 2008, and reached number (10) on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, giving McCartney his highest-charting single to date. The single has been certified platinum by the RIAA selling over than 3 millions copies ,and over 2 millions downloads on iTunes, thus becoming McCartney's highest-certified single as of early 2009. The second single, It's Over, was released on August 26, 2008, and failed to match the success of the lead single, only reaching #42 on the Hot 100. McCartney promoted Departure on a co-headlining tour with Jordin Sparks, which began in August 2008 and ended in September. He also did solo shows at theaters and small venues to support the album while on tour with Sparks.
McCartney re-released Departure on April 7, 2009. The re-release, Departure: Recharged, featured 4 new songs, Body Language, Oxygen, Crash & Burn and In My Veins. The re-release also features a remix of How Do You Sleep? with rapper/actor Ludacris. The third single from the album was released from the re-release and was the remix of How Do You Sleep? It was much more successful than the second single, reaching #26 on the Hot 100, The fourth and final single from the album was also released from the re-release and was a new version of Body Language featuring T-Pain. The single has peaked at #10 on the Billboard Dance/Club Songs in its 13th week and still rising.
McCartney stated that his fourth album will have a similar sound to Departure but will be more rhythm and blues and urban than his third album. In March 2010, it was announced that Sean Garrett produced three songs for the project and that the album will be released Later in 2010. Jesse is now working on releasing a brand new album called Have It All. Jesse recently filmed a television pilot for a brand new fox show called "Locke and Key"

Missed my alarm and now I can't make up the time
I spilled my coffee on my favorite shirt
I tried to clean it but I make it worse
On top of that I'm hitting every light
I missed a meeting 'cause of course my phone just died
I'm doin' circles in the parking lot
Man, I just want this day to stop
But I saw you there on the corner of Sixth
When I look back now and it all makes sense
You'll be gone
Yeah, you'll be gone
What if I missed you?
What if my lips had never kissed you?
I wanna believe that we were gonna happen anyway
But if I took a turn a second late
What if I missed you?
Would someone else be there to kiss you?
I wanna believe that we were gonna happen anyway
But if I took a turn a second late
What if I missed you?
And now I'm thinkin' every time I watch you sleep
That you could wake up with someone who isn't me
And I still think about it every day
How quickly both our lives would change
If you hadn't walked down the corner of Sixth
I'd never know what love would've been
You'd be gone
Yeah, you'd be gone
What if I missed you?
What if my lips had never kissed you?
I wanna believe that we were gonna happen anyway
But if I took a turn a second late
What if I missed you?
Would someone else be there to kiss you?
I wanna believe that we were gonna happen anyway
But if I took a turn a second late
What if I missed you?
If you hadn't walked down the corner of Sixth
I'd never know what love would've been
You'd be gone
Yeah, you'd be gone
The song "The One" by Jesse McCartney talks about the importance of chance encounters and missed opportunities in relationships. Starting with a series of unlucky events that have messed up his day, the singer sees his love interest on the corner of Sixth street and realizes that if he had missed her at that exact moment, their entire relationship would never have happened. The song is a reflection on how one missed chance can change a person's life and how important it is to seize the opportunities given.
The lyrics showcase the idea that life is full of unexpected turns and how one wrong step could result in a completely different outcome. In this case, if Jesse McCartney had missed that person, he would never have experienced love in the same way. The lyrics suggest that we need to cherish and seize the opportunities given to us because they might not come around again.
Overall, the lyrics are an invitation to reflect on our lives and see how many of our present situations have been a result of a missed opportunity or a chance encounter.

Under the silver stars
Right where he broke your heart
Girl you know I'll give you anything
I wanna hold your hand
And say the words he never said
I'll make you promises you can believe
Let me be the one
Telling you it's alright
Sharing the smiles and tears you cry
Let me be the one
Lovin' you when you're weak
For all the strength you need
You can come to me
When you're down and you feel so lonely
Turn around
You can come to me
When you're down baby
I will be the only
Come to me
You can just be yourself
'Cause I don't want nobody else
All of your secrets are safe with me For the kind of love you can trust
For more than just a crush
Baby why don't you just
Come to me
Let me be the one
Telling you it's alright
Sharing the smiles and tears you cry
Let me be the one
Lovin' you when you're weak
For all of the strength you need
You can come to me
When I've got you in my arms Say it's where you wanna be 'Cause girl I'm down on my knees
Promising my heart
Oh my heart
Let me be the one
Telling you it's alright
Sharing the smiles and tears you cry
Let me be the one Lovin' you when you're weak
For all of the strength you need
You can come to me
Let me be the one
Telling you it's alright
Sharing the smiles and tears you cry
Let me be the one
Lovin' you when you're weak
For all of the strength you need
You can come to me
Whenever you need me Whenever you need me girl
Whenever you need me Ohh, I'll be there
Whenever you need me Whenever you need me girl
Whenever you need me
I'll be there
