Wasted
Jesse McCartney Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The phone rings, I already know who's calling
But every time it's after two
It ain't you, but the champagne talking
Saying "baby, when you coming through?"

You like to call me when your high
End of the party, I'm your guy
Thing is I do this every night
And I don't wanna come off impatient

But you only call when you're
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're
You only call when you're wasted

I wait for the day you tell me
You'll see me in the afternoon
Don't get me wrong, I love our late night everything
But that ain't all I want from you

You like to call me when your high
End of the party, I'm your guy
Thing is I do this every night
And I don't wanna come off impatient

But you only call when you're
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're
You only call when you're (wasted)

You like to call me when your high
And baby, trust me, that's alright
'Cause I will answer every time
We should be taking this places
And you only call when you're
I don't wanna come off impatient
But you only call when you're
As much as I love when you're naked

You only call when you're (you only call when you're)
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're
You only call when you're wasted
You only call when you're
You only call when you're wasted (wasted, wasted, wasted)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jesse McCartney's song "Wasted" depict a relationship that is primarily based on late-night encounters fueled by alcohol or drugs. The singer receives phone calls from their partner, but only when they are intoxicated, hence the repeated line, "You only call when you're wasted." The singer acknowledges that they enjoy these rendezvous but desires more from the relationship. They long for a deeper connection, yearning for the day when their partner will reach out to them during the day or when sober. The lyrics imply that the singer wants the relationship to advance beyond the late-night encounters and physical intimacy.

The song highlights the singer's conflicting emotions. On one hand, they appreciate the attention and feel wanted when their partner calls them. However, on the other hand, there is a sense of frustration and impatience. The singer wants to be more than a convenient option for their partner, and they hope for a stronger bond, where they can experience more than just late-night meetups. Despite this tension, the singer maintains that they will answer every call, emphasizing their willingness to be there for their partner.

This song touches on the complexities of relationships that are based on casual encounters and momentary connections. It explores the desire for something deeper and more meaningful, yet also acknowledges the allure and excitement of spontaneous encounters. Overall, "Wasted" portrays a complicated emotional landscape where the singer contemplates their yearnings and hopes for a relationship that extends beyond the limits of late-night rendezvous.

Sometimes i wonder how can jesse be good at singing,dancing and acting... Such a versatile artist yet so underrated.. people are sleeping on him, i say !!

@12Carrie90

Ahsuna LH Did you know that Jesse used to be on a soap opera when he was younger? From the ages of 11 to 14 he was on All My Children. He was also nominated for an emmy when he was 14 for a performance he did when he was 13, and nominated again next year when he was 15 for a performance he did when he was 14 for the show. But, ya, Jesse is definitely a jack of all trades in my opinion. He's amazing. I've been a huge fan of his since he was in the boy band Dream Street. Like you, though, I wish he was as popular as his Beautiful soul days, because he definitely deserves everything for how talented he is.

@gilliansillustrations

Right? He's amazing!

@shinigami1506

And he is a song writer too
