Jesse St. James's "Rolling in the Deep" is a song that speaks of betrayal, deception and deep-rooted fear. The song recounts Jesse's story of being set up by someone who he had trusted, and now he must fight to clear his name. In the first verse, Jesse acknowledges that he is in a dire situation and has lost his dignity because he was betrayed by the one he trusted. The Man, the one who set Jesse up, kissed him to ensure that Jesse wouldn't suspect anything. Jesse has now become a victim of the situation.
