All the ways you've done me wrong
Forgive me if I don't celebrate it
With a dance and a song
What's your excuse
That you took so long
I could have put it in a letter
So that you could read along
You didn't listen to what I said to you
Didn't see the fault in saying things that weren't true
Didn't show me that your love for me was true
Bless your heart
I'm over you
Bless your heart
The season's through
What do you expect me to do
With your apologies
That you handed out
And took right back
And now you're saying to me
That this was all up to me
How quickly you forget
You asked it to be
You didn't listen to what I said to you
Didn't see the fault in saying things that weren't true
Didn't show me that your love for me was true
Bless your heart
it's overdue
Bless your heart
You know it's true
It shouldn't come as a surprise
It happened right before your eyes
I told you what I need
I'm not the type to plead
I'm fresh out of tries
I'm sick of your lies
It's too late to get your way
Bless your heart
I thought you knew
Bless your heart
I'm leaving you
Bless your heart
I've gotta tell you
Bless your heart
You and me are through

She acknowledges that this person has realized their mistakes, but she is not willing to forgive and forget right away. In fact, she is almost annoyed that this person has taken so long to see the error of their ways. The singer is aware of the apologies being offered but is skeptical of their sincerity given the past behavior of the person. She expresses her frustration with her situation with lines like "What do you expect me to do with your apologies that you handed out and took right back?"
The song highlights the importance of communication in any relationship. The singer points out that this person didn't listen to her when she spoke, and she didn't feel like he was showing true love for her. Her message is that apology doesn't solve everything; actions must follow words. She is ready to move on from this toxic relationship, telling the person that she is "sick of your lies" and that she is "leaving you."
In summary, "Open Your Heart" is a song that speaks to the frustration that comes with being in a relationship with someone who takes a long time to see the error in their ways.
