Mad About the Boy
Jessica Biel The Easy Virtue Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm mad about the boy
And I know it's stupid to be mad about the boy
I'm so ashamed of it but must admit the sleepless nights I've had
About the boy

Oh, on the silver screen
He melts my foolish heart in every single scene
Although I'm quite aware that here and there are traces of the cad
About the boy

Lord knows I'm not a fool girl
I really shouldn't care
Lord knows I'm not a school girl
Who's in the fury of her first affair

Will it ever cloy?
This odd diversity of misery and joy
I'm feeling quite insane and young again
And all because I'm mad about the boy

I'm feeling quite insane and young again
And all because I'm mad about the boy

Overall Meaning

The song "Mad about the boy" by Jessica Biel is a tribute to the irrationality of love. In the first stanza, the singer admits that she feels foolish and ashamed for being mad about a boy, acknowledging that she knows it's not logical. But still, she can't help the sleepless nights she's had because of him. In the second stanza, the singer describes how the boy captures her heart on the silver screen, and despite knowing that he exhibited some traces of being a cad, her emotions aren't swayed.

The third stanza says that she knows she's not a naive girl and shouldn't be blindly infatuated with someone. However, the following lines contradict that statement in that she feels like she's back in her youth, experiencing her first love again. The final stanza repeats the idea of feeling insane and young because of this crushing feeling she can't seem to shake. Overall, the song portrays how love can defy logic and make people feel like they're losing their minds.

Now I learn that one of the most beautiful women in the world can also sing like this??? She's the total package!

@videomannengismo5355

everyne can sing if they have million and trillions of money to pay for a music cotch.

@austenhead5303

@@videomannengismo5355You still have to do the learning and the practising, and you still have to have a decent voice and a decent ear to begin with, so definitely not "anyone".

But yes, you are correct in less absolute terms - privilege helps a LOT. Just having time to practise is a luxury. One I for example rarely have. I'm typing this on my work commute, and I doubt the other passengers would be happy with me if I practised my "Mad About the Boy" on the train. I certainly can't do it at work, and I don't have much time or privacy at home. So. Yeah. Privilege certainly helps.

@videomannengismo5355

@@austenhead5303 hehe. Good to hear your not killing you co-workers with your practice. I believe absolute everyone with a voice can sing good. Even Johnny cash said so. Like me I am tone deaf. But still I manage to learn how to sing a pretty hard song for my exame back in the days.
And I am NOT a good singer. I just practice a lot before and found a technic. To see this celebrites get so much love for not doing anything is beond me. But everyone is right for their opinion.
