Come On Over
Jessica Simpson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Leave your dishes in the sink,
Leave your ice cubes in your drink,
Just come on over.
Leave your coat behind the door,
Leave your laundry on the floor,
Just come on over.

[Chorus]
I need you now, I need you bad,
I need you baby lookin' just like that.
Don't pack a bag
Don't make me wait,
I wanna kiss that smile that's on your face.
I need you wrapped up in these arms,
I want you just the way you are,
Come on over.

Baseball cap 'n torn up jeans,
A pair of flip flops on your feet,
Just come on over.
Don't slow down don't stop for gas,
Keep those four wheels spinning fast,
Just come on over.

[Chorus]

I need you now, I need you bad,
I need you baby looking just like that,
Don't pack a bag,
Don't make me wait,
I wanna kiss that smile that's on your face.

Oh all I need is all your love,
Baby I cant get enough,
I need you wrapped up in these arms,
I want you just the way you are,
So come on over.

So come on over

Overall Meaning

In Jessica Simpson's song "Come on Over", she sends an urgent invitation to her significant other to come over to her place immediately. She doesn't care about the little things like finishing the dishes or laundry, she just wants them to be there with her in the moment. She's infatuated with her partner's appearance, asking them to wear torn-up jeans, a baseball cap, and flip flops to show up as they are. She doesn't want them to waste time on things like packing a bag or filling up the gas tank because she can't wait to hold them in her arms.

The lyrics of the song suggest that this is a spontaneous and passionate love affair. Simpson doesn't want anything to come in between them, be it chores or material possessions. The chorus reiterates her point, emphasizing how much she wants her partner just the way they are, no matter how messy or unprepared. She wants to kiss their smile and is not shy about declaring her desire for them. Simpson is pleading for them to not keep her waiting and to just come over, emphasizing her yearning for love and connection.

Not understanding why the critics put this album down? She seems to shine best with country music!!

@lizmillinor8681

I totally agree. She was much more genuine as a country singer than pop, though there is no denying she always had a great voice.

@EveGoohooe-pz5ew

She's hard to work with

@YesMyTatsAreReal

This was Jessica in her element. The voice, the facial expressions, the gyrations. I don't think she ever looked better than she did here.

@emmabrown5787

Agreed! You can tell this is her niche.

@sosamena

yes!

@Alexandra_Wolf

Her voice can do wayyyyy more than this. This was an easy hit lyrically but didn’t showcase her range or her talent at all.

@@Alexandra_Wolf I've always thought it funny how her early music increased in sales after her MTV show. Not that her voice got any better on those early recordings, but the show made her a lot more famous so for some reason people who'd passed on her CDs before started buying them now or people who didn't know about her until the show we're buying them. That got her a foot in the door for her cosmetics line, etc. and she's made much more money off that than she ever did with anything musically.

@@YesMyTatsAreReal and the fact that she cleared over a billion in womens wear and sustained it for over 7 years is unheard of in celebrity fashion lines. Her line was valued the same as Michael kors. That’s WILD! She’s a wonderful businesswoman. In her book she talks about how she once split her pants on stage and thought it was over, but she made a joke and the audience loved it. It’s so rare to find authenticity in celebrities and newlyweds really showed how authentic she was. We all saw ourselves in her. And the smart ones knew she was pulling one over by acting ditzy. She said in her book “How dumb where these people to think I was that stupid??” I acted the same when I was younger so I knew what she was doing. I’ve fallen in love with her all over again. Grab her book if you haven’t! I’d send it to you if I could! I read 400 pages in three days. I cried and laughed and I know she’s casting someone as her younger self for an Amazon series and wants an “unknown”. When I was tan and blond and hadn’t gotten my nose done I used to look a bit like her and I do a lot of indie films. I would love to play her. But idk how you cast someone like Jess, she’s so beautiful without makeup and has such a lovely way about her.

She should’ve been doing country music all along. She’s a natural at it.
