Holiday
Jessie Baylin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I came all the way from Nashville
Just to have you break my heart
You came all the way from Memphis
Where every ending gets its start
I wish you well
I'm looking for a holiday
Some peace in this world
Giving up on expectations
'Cause they only bring you down
I took the high road
Left you laughing
It felt so good to hear that sound

I wish you well
I'm looking for a holiday
I'm looking for a holiday
I wish you well
I'm looking for a holiday
Some peace in this world
Some peace in this world

I wish you well
I'm looking for a holiday
I'm looking for a holiday
I wish you well

I'm looking for a holiday
Some peace in this world

Overall Meaning

The song "Holiday" by Jessie Baylin talks about finding peace in a world that is tumultuous and heart-wrenching. Baylin starts the song by saying that she came all the way from Nashville to mend a heart that has been broken by an unfaithful lover. The lover, who came from Memphis, is where every ending gets its start. This line suggests that the place is full of pain and grief.

In the chorus, Baylin expresses her desire to find a holiday, a break from the stress and drama that life has to offer. She has given up on expectations, acknowledging that holding onto them brings nothing but disappointment. In the second verse, Baylin talks about how she decided to take the high road and left the lover who hurt her, laughing. This decision made her feel good, and she relished the sound of his laughter.

Holiday and Hurry Hurry are both from her 3rd album called "Little Spark". It's an AMAZING album, and Jessie is spectacular :)

The best I could typify this tune as is haunting. And I love it. Yeah, at 65, it reminds me of Bonoff's writing, and Neil Young/Poco/Nesmith kind of melancholic production. But I don't like describing one artist's sound in terms of others. She hit nailed it. And I'm still looking for my holiday.
