Jesu Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's all you'll ever be
It's never been in me
And you never see in me
Some Days
Somewhere
Some place where no one cares
You can be there don't be scared
The place is everywhere
Some Days
Somewhere
In Jesu's song Homesick, the lyrics convey a sense of existential longing and isolation. The opening lines "You're only what you see, it's all you'll ever be" suggest a belief in the limitations of the self, and a sense of resignation that one's identity is fixed and unchanging. The following line "It's never been in me, and you never see in me" speaks to the inability to break free from these self-imposed limitations, and the frustration at not being able to connect with others.
The chorus "Some days, somewhere, there's a place somewhere, some place where no one cares" suggests a longing for escape, and a desire to find a place where one can be free from judgement and the burdens of the self. The line "you can be there don't be scared, the place is everywhere" is particularly poignant, as it suggests that the escape one seeks is not a physical place, but rather a state of mind.

This seems very wrong. If I was to attempt it:
You're only what you see
It's all you'll ever be
It's never anywhere
And you'll never see it there
Some place
Somewhere
There's a place somewhere
Some place that no one cares
You can be there, don't be scared
That place is anywhere
Some place
Somewhere

(n.) A homesickness for home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past.

the best art is what touches the soul....which Justin Broadrick does so well...

Hard to believe that this is from the same lad who made the absolutely monstrous and terrifying sounds of Godflesh. Completely on the opposite end of the spectrum, but each are both amazing.
