Did you forget who you are
You tried to fill some emptiness
'Til all you had spilled over
Now everything's so far away
That you don't know where you are
You are
All that you wanted
And that you have done
Says so much
For you to hold on to
For you to hold on to
You belong too
When it's to be yourself,
It's not to be someone else
Still, everything's so far away
That you forgot where you are
You are
Well, all that you wanted
And that you have done
Says so much
For you to hold on to
For you to hold on to
Hold on, hold on,
Hold on, hold on,
Hold on, hold on,
Hold on, hold on,
And all that you wanted
And that you have done
Says so much
For you to hold on to
For you to hold on to
For you to hold on to
For you you belong to
The lyrics to Jet's song Hold On are about the struggle to maintain a sense of self-identity and purpose in the face of societal pressure to conform and succeed. The opening lines "You tried so hard to be someone / Did you forget who you are" suggest that the singer has lost sight of their true self in pursuit of external validation and success. They have tried to fill a sense of emptiness with material achievements, but ultimately feel lost and disconnected from themselves.
The refrain "All that you wanted / And that you have done / Says so much / For you to hold on to / For you to hold on to / You belong too" underscores the importance of finding meaning and purpose in one's own accomplishments and experiences, rather than seeking validation from others. It encourages the listener to hold on to their sense of self and to recognize the value of their own unique journey.
The song acknowledges the challenge of staying true to oneself in a world that often prioritizes conformity and external validation, but ultimately offers a message of hope and resilience. By holding on to their own sense of identity and purpose, the singer is able to find a way forward and regain a sense of belonging.

You are
This is your reality
All that you wanted
All that you desired
And that you have done
And everything that you have accomplished

When it's to be yourself,
When the goal is to be true to oneself,
It's not to be someone else
It's not to become someone different

That you forgot where you are
To the point that you've forgotten your current location
You are
But again, this is your reality
Hold on, hold on,
Hanging in there, hanging in there,
And all that you wanted
And everything that you desired
And that you have done
And all of your accomplishments
Says so much
Speaks volumes
For you to hold on to
Something to hold onto tightly
For you to hold on to
For you to cling onto firmly
For you to hold on to
Something to not let go of
For you you belong to
Because you belong to it
