Kings Horses

So pull up an armchair lets drink to success
Everyone laughed at the things that you said
At all the kings horses and all the kings men
When the back lights have broken
Then all that you built will come tumbling down
Don't try to hold it
Tell me a story or sing me a tune
Remember the one 'bout the man on the moon?
In the morning I swear I will tell you the truth
How you receive it, well, that's up to you
When the back lights have broken
Then all that you built will come tumbling down
Don't try to hold it
You know you can always start over again
I know I should ask you
But everyone got scared
I just want to help you
But everyone got scared
Scared
Scared
Well I should have told you
That everyone knows what they wished they had said
When the back lights have broken
And all that you built has come tumbling down
And don't try to hold it
You know you can always start over again.
The song Kings Horses by Jet tells stories of failure, starting over, and redemption. The first verse speaks of those who believe what they are told and the need to celebrate success. But the chorus offers a warning that all good things must come to an end, and when it does, it will be a massive fall. The lyrics suggest that one should not undertake to hold onto it, for it's better to start afresh. The second verse invites the listener to tell a story or sing a tune, with a promise of truth-telling the following morning. The bridge speaks about the inability of everyone to speak the truth they wished they had said when they had the chance, and the inner feeling of wanting to help, even though others got scared.
The song can be interpreted to refer to the moments of failure and repeated attempts that precede success. The allusion to the "king's horses and all the king's men" implies that when all seems lost, no structural or external help can salvage one's situation. Instead, it calls for acceptance and the will to start anew. The references to truth and stories suggest that sometimes, one has to go back to the basics and retrace past steps to move forward.
