What you doing with your keys inside my door
Seventeen and you've never been here before
I tried my best not to put you down
There's a hole in my head where the words fall out
Don't care what faithless people say
Should I care
(Oh, oh)
(Oh, oh)
Seventeen,
(Oh, oh)
Don't change one thing
(Oh, oh)
We take our chances everyday
We watch those bleeding hearts decay
I'd walk through walls, would it make you stay
I've burned my bridges and I've burned my friends
If I had my time, I'd do it again
Don't care what faithless people say
I don't care
Seventeen,
(Oh, oh)
Don't change one thing
(Oh, oh)
Just burn to the end, at seventeen girl
(Oh, oh)
Seventeen,
(Oh, oh)
Don't change one thing
(Oh, oh)
Just burn to the end, at seventeen girl
(Oh, oh)
I don't wanna talk I wanna go home
There's a voice in my head, won't leave me alone
I want you to follow me home
'Cause I know this star that we transcend could be the only chance we get
Seventeen, I've never been here before (yeah)
Seventeen,
(Oh, oh)
Don't change one thing
(Oh, oh)
Just burn to the end, at seventeen girl
Seventeen,
(Oh, oh)
Don't change one thing
(Oh, oh)
Just burn to the end, at seventeen girl
Burn to the end
The song "Seventeen" by Jet is about a 17-year-old girl who visits the singer's home for the first time. The lyrics depict a desire for a physical relationship with this girl and a rejection of societal norms that might dictate otherwise. The singer is happy to have this girl in his home and puts on a brave face to avoid putting her down. He knows the relationship may be temporary but is willing to take the chance.
The opening lines of the song establish the time at which the events are taking place, with the singer coming home at 3:45 am to find the girl waiting inside his home. He is not judgmental and welcomes the person into his life, despite the fact that she seems to be a stranger. He expresses his desire to burn brightly and live life to the fullest, regardless of the opinions of others. The chorus is a reminder to the girl not to change a thing about herself, to embrace who she is, and to live her life the same way.
The final lines express the singer's desire to go home with this girl and take their relationship to the next level, expressing hope that this connection might be their "only chance." Overall, "Seventeen" is a song about taking risks, being true to oneself, and embracing life to the fullest.
