Jupiter
Jewel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Venus De Milo in half-baked shell
Understood the nature of love very well
She said, "a good love is delicious
You can't get enough too soon
It makes you so crazy you want to swallow the moon"

Oh, oh Jupiter
Oh, oh be still my little heart
Oh, oh love is a flame neither timid nor tame
Take these stars from my crown
Let the years fall down
Lay me out in firelight
Let my skin feel the night
Fasten me to your side
Say it will be soon
You make me so crazy, baby
Could swallow the moon

My hands are two travelers they've crossed oceans and lands
But they are too small on the continent of your skin
Wandering, wandering
I could spend my life
Traveling the length of your body each night

Oh, oh Jupiter
Oh, oh be still my little heart
Oh, oh love is a flame neither timid nor tame
Take these stars
Lay me out in firelight
Let my skin feel the night
Fasten me to your side and say it will be soon
You make me so crazy, baby
Swallow the moon
Swallow the moon

Oh, oh Jupiter
Oh, oh be still my little heart
Oh, oh love is a flame neither timid nor tame
Take these stars
Swallow the moon

Swallow, swallow, swallow, swallow
Swallow the moon

The second verse emphasizes the singer's desire for physical intimacy with their partner, describing their hands as "travelers" longing to explore the expanse of their partner's body. The song concludes with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the singer's longing and desire.

+geezeandcrackers Hey buddy, if you're directing that my way, please understand I have no qualms with sexuality and music combining.
I just felt like it was thrown around willy nilly in this music video. Jewel had thems hips and curves way before J-Lo came on the scene. I got no problem with that. In fact, I believe sexuality elaborates certain songs and I'm all for it but I felt a little uneasy because I respect this musician and I know she respects herself!. If I was an editor and had permission, I'd break down a couple of sections that, to ME had obvious outside influence just to appease.
I am willing to admit that I was a bit tipsy when posting my original comment and I was so in the zone and loving Jewel. So much so that I was taken aback when some full-on bits flashed before my eyes.
I am not being stubborn but I keep with my opinion, which by the way I clearly stated at the end of my comment. As well as "may-be". I don't know everything. I'd love to know personally, what she thinks. I also am not being a comment troll. I just really feel you should have at least drafted your comment because you turned my innocent remark/ observation into an insult.
I ain't no bible basher I ain't guilt free but I am aware that sex sells. And it sells very good. I would be happy if everyone on planet Earth went clothe less! We are the only creature on this planet that covers up for no good reason.

i am saddened more than anything because you don't seem to have absorbed Jewels' lyrical messages of Love, Respect and Free Will. Possibly, I may seem to have missed the point from your perspective too. Agreed ,this is mild compared to today's' music vids but remember, the true musical talent play gigs and record on their own budget. They don't get told what to do and how many local bands actually express sexuality in low budget vids or onstage..? I'm not sure either. I've gone on long enough and I really want you to know that I'm not doing this to be a d*ck, purely because I wanted to let this out and you sparked it haha

I'm sorry to say it but you're the one whom has to "get over" something.

My husband and I have been together for 13 years and he has ALWAYS sang the chorus of this song to me. And when I had to go in and have surgery, I woke up to him sitting beside me and he sang this song in my ear. I love him SOOOOO much. And this is an awesome song!!!!

2:46 - from here on out, this is one of the best anythings ever. Especially when she puts it in another gear (3:08) in the chorus. Just phenomenal!

I think this is Jewel's best music video, very vibrant and colorful, not as cold and dreary as her others.
