Jhené is the daughter of Tina Chilombo and Antonio Chilombo. She has four siblings: Miyoko (sister), Jamila (sister), Miyagi (brother) and Jahi (brother). Jhené’s older sisters Jamila and Miyoko toured with Immature. This led to Jhene’s first meeting with producer Chris Stokes when Jhene was five years old. Eventually Stokes heard her sing, and he promised her that he would work with her someday. Although Jhené can sing in the fifth octave, she doesn’t have a five octave range. When B2K signed with Epic Records, Stokes suggested Jhene as a female solo singer and which led to her being signed as well. She served as the opening act for B2K and IMx on the Scream Tour 3.
As a promotional tool for Jhené, a few of her songs are featured on B2K releases. Tracks five through eight on B2K’s B2K: The Remixes - Volume 1 were actually songs by Jhené. They were: “My Name Is Jhene” (Intro), “He Couldn’t Kiss” (Album Version), “Gonna Love You Anyway” (snippet), and “Stuck Like This” (Snippet). “Santa Baby”, a cover done by Jhene, was featured on B2K’s Santa Hooked Me Up. On Pandemonium!, she was featured as a guest vocalist on the song “Tease”, and her song “Dog” appeared as a bonus track. Possibly as a ploy to get fans to listen to this song all the way though, a B2K bonus song “What U Get” can be heard immediately after “Dog” on the same track. The full version of “Stuck Like This” can be heard as the final track on The Remixes - Volume 2.
Jhené appears in numerous music videos including O’Ryan’s debut video, “Take It Slow”, B2K’s debut video “Uh Huh”, Play’s “M.AS.T.E.R (Part 2)” featuring Lil Fizz video and Morgan Smith’s 2004 video Blow Ya Whistle. Jhené’s songs are also featured on the soundtracks of Barbershop, The Master of Disguise, You Got Served, The Proud Family and Byou.

I was the dumb girl,
I was the one who can never be your one girl!
You were the fly guy,
Never asked why guy
Running around, making all of the girls cry, guy!
Layin in your bed is gets so cold,
You were such da man
Damn what happend
It's just so sad!
Chorus:
They say mister popular
Why are you alone now?
Mister popular, where are all your hoes now?
Mister popular why are you alone now?
Where did they all go now?
Mister popular, where did they go now,
Why are you so lonely now?
Damn, homie,
In high school you were the man homie
The fuck happen to you
(repeat)
He wanted things that he didn't need
And I was the one who was trying to make him see
That he had it all cause he had my all,
But he's a lost cause,
Guess she cannot save them all!
Now he's at my show
Standing front row,
He don't know how
He messed up such a good thing
Look who's popular now!
Chorus:
They say mister popular
Why are you alone now?
Mister popular, where are all your hoes now?
Mister popular why are you alone now?
Where did they all go now?
Mister popular, where did they go now,
Why are you so lonely now?
Damn, homie,
In high school you were the man homie
The fuck happen to you
( Repeat 5x)
The lyrics to "Popular" by Jhené Aiko explore the theme of popularity and how it can be fleeting. The song is about a man who was once the popular guy in high school but has now become lonely and lost. The singer, who was once the young, naive girl who fell for his charm, expresses her disappointment towards him.
In the first verse, the singer reflects on her past experience with the man. She remembers being the young and dumb girl who hoped she could be the one who would capture his heart. However, he was the fly guy, who was always seeking attention from other girls, making them cry. The chorus emphasizes his current state of loneliness, as the people who used to show him attention are no longer in his life. The singer wonders why he is alone now and what happened to all the girls that used to chase after him.
The second verse reveals the singer's attempts to make the man understand what he had in her. She goes on to say that he may have had everything he needed, including her love, but he still wanted more. The man's desire for things he did not need caused him to lose her, and now he has lost his power and respect. The chorus repeats, highlighting that he is no longer the man he once was, and he is now suffering the consequences of his past behavior.
Overall, "Popular" talks about the price of popularity and how fickle it can be. As the singer reflects on her past, she comes to the realization that the man she once loved is not the same man he used to be, and it's not worth trying to save him.
