Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible says
And it still is news
[Chorus]
Momma may have
Poppa may have
That's got his own
That's got his own
Yeah, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't
Ever make the grade
[Chorus]
Money, you've got lots of friends
Crowdin' 'round the door
When it's gone and
Spendin' ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give
A crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
[Chorus]
The lyrics of "God Bless The Child" by Jill Scott are a powerful display of the reality of the world we live in, especially when it comes to wealth and poverty. The first verse highlights the notion that those who are good and deserve good things are the ones who will receive them, while those who are not good enough or do not deserve it will not receive them. This concept is based on biblical teachings that continue to hold true today. The chorus then emphasizes how having one's own resources is a blessing and can lead to success and prosperity. Those who have their own resources can achieve more and are better off than those who do not.
The second verse highlights the inequalities that exist in society, where the strong continue to prosper while the weak struggle and fade away. This is often seen in how people with more resources have access to more opportunities and can achieve more than those who do not. The reference to empty pockets not making the grade underscores how the lack of resources can hold people back and limit their chances of success. The third verse speaks to the value of money and how quickly relationships can change when it disappears. This speaks to how society values wealth and material possessions and how people's attitudes towards someone can be influenced by their financial status.
Overall, "God Bless The Child" speaks to the reality of poverty and wealth disparity in our society and how having resources can lead to success while the lack of them can hold people back. It is a poignant reminder to be grateful for what we have and to help others when we can.
