Strange Days
Jim Morrison/John Densmore/Ray Manzarek/Robbie Krieger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Strange days are from boys
Strange days I track those down
Will come too destroy
How causal destroy
We shall complain of fun
All over town
Are your town, yeah
Strange days
To through strange rooms
Voices will signal the time
The noise is screaming
The case sleep, no city
Your little can see
And you move
This is hell, this is hell
Just as this
This is it, this is it
Strange
Strange days have thunders
Do a same jobs we linger on
Party confuse
Live lonely with shoe

As we run from the town
To the space, to the storm

Overall Meaning

The song "Strange Days" by The Doors is a reflection on the peculiar and unpredictable nature of the world, and how it can often become overwhelming and destructive. The lyrics open with the phrase "Strange days are from boys," which can be interpreted as a commentary on the reckless and impulsive behavior that young men are often associated with. The next line "Strange days I track those down" suggests that the singer is searching for these unusual experiences in order to better understand them or perhaps to escape from the mundanity of everyday life. The song then takes a dark turn, warning that these strange days will eventually come to destroy, and that their destructive power is both casual and merciless.

The lyrics then shift to a more general commentary on society, as the singer complains that the people in town are only concerned with having fun and are oblivious to the dangers that loom around them. The imagery of "strange rooms" and "screaming" noises adds to the overall sense of chaos and confusion. The line "This is hell, this is hell" emphasizes the overwhelming and destructive nature of the world, while "This is it, this is it" suggests a resigned acceptance of the situation. The final verse of the song touches on themes of isolation and alienation, as the singer describes "running from the town" and seeking solace in the vast emptiness of space.

Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
They're going to destroy
Our casual joys
We shall go on playing
Or find a new town

Yeah!

Strange eyes fill strange rooms
Voices will signal their tired end
The hostess is grinning
Her guests sleep from sinning
Hear me talk of sin
And you know this is it

Yeah!

Strange days have found us
And through their strange hours
We linger alone
Bodies confused
Memories misused
As we run from the day
To a strange night of stone

This is by far my favorite Doors song. It gives the feeling of being perpetually trapped in a dystopian rock 'n' roll cabaret.

The ultimate psychedelic song hands down. So haunting and other worldly, indeed.

@danielhamby9448

It is… right along with Tales of Brave Ulysses and Astronomy Domine

@Valientlink

@@danielhamby9448 Yeah I think quite a few songs of piper could contend as the "ultimate" psychedelic song. To me, that's Flaming, that song and psychedelics get along real well :p I think When the Music's Over is more psychedelic than Strange Days

@srujan00

I disagree. It's pretty simplistic, and not even the best of its era.

Sunshine of Your Love, Incense and Peppermints, White Rabbit, a handful of Jimi Hendrix songs, and even The Doors' own Light My Fire is a better psychedelic song.
