A Fool Such As I
Jim Reeves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pardon me if I'm sentimental when we say goodbye
Don't be angry with me should I cry
When you're gone, yet I'll dream a little dream as years go by
Now and then there's a fool such as I

Now and then there's a fool such as I am over you
You taught me how to love and now you say that we are through
I'm a fool but I'll love you dear until the day I die
Now and then there's a fool such as I

(repeat last verse)

My dad had speakers in every room of our house. After we were sent to bed, Mom would put her albums on the Hi-Fi. Jim Reeves, Charley Pride , Jimmy Rogers, Web Pierce and others would sing us off to sleep. So often I will start to sing a song and realize I learned the words from the Everly Brothers or The Kingston Trio. I love YouTube because I can hear the words I have forgotten. Thanks for this.

I've listened to Now And Then There's A Fool Such as I for fifty two years. This has been performed by a lot of different people. No one has been able to better perform this song than the soft, smooth, romantic voice of Gentleman Jim Reeves. His voice was and is still the best voice that has ever performed this song. This and other songs by Gentleman Jim take me back to when I was a young man growing up in the East Tennessee Mountains. I always play his songs and sing on my guitar and remember when I was a young man and listen to the one and only Jim Reeves..........Glenn
