Ramona
Jim Reeves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wander out yonder o'er the hills
Where the mountains high
Seem to kiss the sky
Someone is out yonder, o'er the hills
Waiting patiently, Waiting just for me

Ramona, I hear the mission bells above
Ramona, they're ringing out our song of love
I press you, caress you, and bless the day you taught me to care
To always remember the rambling rose you wear in your hair
Ramona, when day is done you'll hear my call
Ramona, we'll meet beside the water fall
I dread the dawn when I awake to find you gone
Ramona I need you my own

Let's wander out yonder o'er the hills
By a babbling brook
Where we'll find a nook
To build our own love nest, o'er the hills
Darling of my heart, Never more to part

Ramona, I hear the mission bells above
Ramona, they're ringing out our song of love
I press you, caress you, and bless the day you taught me to care
To always remember the rambling rose you wear in your hair
Ramona, when day is done you'll hear my call
Ramona, we'll meet beside the water fall

I dread the dawn when I awake to find you gone
Ramona I need you my own

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Ramona" by Jim Reeves depict a love story between two people who are separated by distance but remain deeply connected. The singer wanders out yonder over the hills, where the mountains high seem to kiss the sky. We can infer from this that he is feeling lonely and is searching for solace in nature. However, his thoughts are soon interrupted by a sound- the mission bells ringing in the distance. He hears them as a calling, a sign that his lover Ramona is waiting for him across the hills.

He reminisces about the day Ramona taught him to care and to always remember the rambling rose she wears in her hair. He vows to bless her every day and to never forget the love they share. The song ends on a hopeful note, as he sings about a future meeting with her beside the waterfall. However, his fear of losing her weighs heavily as he dreads waking up to find her gone.

Overall, this song is a classic example of a romantic ballad that portrays the intense longing and devotion two people share, even when separated by distance. It communicates the message that true love can withstand time and space and that the bond between two people can remain unbroken despite obstacles.

Joe ONeal

Another fantastic rendition to a beautiful song by one, if not the best singer of his era. People speak of Old Blue Eyes, Nat King Cole, Bing, Brook Benton, and the 60's Pop & Rock & Roll artist during Jim's life time, but if you listen carefully, there is no rasp, break, or decrease in his
range which speaks volumes for his God given ability.
