Jim Sturgess (born May 16, 1981) is an English actor and singer-songwriter.… Read Full Bio ↴Jim Sturgess (born May 16, 1981) is an English actor and singer-songwriter. His breakthrough film role was in the 2007 musical Across the Universe, in which he played and sung the role of Jude.

He has remained active as a musician throughout his time being known as an actor, maintaining a selection of songs on his MySpace page, some of which were performed for movies and with others credited to previous bands of his such as Saint Faith and Dilated Spies. In addition to performing a number of covers of The Beatles' songs as Jude in Across the Universe, he has also contributed songs to soundtracks for other films of his, including 21 (2008) and Heartless (2009).

As of October 2011, he is known to be currently working on a project called Tragic Toys with his girlfriend Mickey O'Brien (who is also known as Ladyburden and tours as a keyboardist with La Roux.)

Nothing but the utmost respect for Julie Taymor and T.V. Carpio. They took probably the loftiest song in the soundtrack and transformed it. You may like this version so much more than the original, but the fact remains that it would not have existed 'without' the original. Coming up with the tune in the first place was the the more creative and difficult part of the artistic process. "Improving" an already existing song by adding bright colors, bells and whistles, a pleasant sounding female voice and changing the gender association (from a visual perspective at least) was not all that hard to do --- after the fact). Just because the original was the exuberant but straight father and this is the sexy sapphic woke daughter doesn't change the fact that the daughter would not have existed without the father.

This was my first encounter with something gay.
I'm glad this was my introduction to the topic.

This kind of fury and anger that surrounds homophobia was just something I never understood, and they couldn't indoctrinate me. Seeing this, and then hearing people say that someone like this would go to hell? Well which one sounds more christianly? Girl professing their love or people professing their hate? So I chose to step away from those fake Christian types.

I have really mixed views about the film but I thought this scene was beautiful,

This song came out when Beatles was going around as a boy band( pre Rubber Soul era), and I never really looked too much in to it.
But the song with this setting gives such a beautiful meaning to it...

After so many years this is still one of my fav covers from this movie.
When I was 20 years old,there was a girl I was in love with...and to be honest I still feel the same...even I was rejected by her. We' re still friends after so many years. She's married to a really nice guy, they have two wonderful boys...
And now I'm 36...and nothing changed. Probably gonna love her till my last day on earth...

I had no clue that she was looking at and singing about the girl till I read info about this movie on Wikipedia.

Lessons that I’ve learned:
- I’m sometimes slow to pick up things but that’s ok because as long as I’m willing to accept I was wrong, it’s all good
-I obviously don’t think the same way a lesbian would and don’t see the world as she would as this song obviously wasn’t for me. It’s helping me better understand different perspectives and I can appreciate this much more now

I met this girl not too long ago. She got a good head on her shoulders. Everytime she messages me my heart flutters and I smile. I've dealt with depression for 16 years now and moments like that are fleeting. I've taken medication for so long I can't even remember what it's like to cry even when I feel like I want to. I think my life would be complete, if I could just hold her hand

I remember as a kid my parents showed me this video told me she was singing to the guy and was jealous of the girl. I’m so happy I watched it again when I was older and realized how it was the other way around, somehow it made it all the more heartfelt and tragic❤

I swear. I remember seeing this movie somewhere. I can't remember where but when this scene happened I expected her to sing to the guy. When I saw that it was the girl though my heart just sparked. This was before I knew I was gay, but I did know that then and there something felt good and natural. I knew I felt connected to a character for the first time in that way.
