Recorded Jan. 3, 1939. Lunceford's first session for Columbia-Vocalion after leaving Decca in the summer of 1938. According to Brian Rust, 1974, the arrangement is by Sy Oliver. Personnel: Eddie Tompklins, Paul Webster, Sy Oliver,t; Elmer Crumbley, Russell Bowles, Trummy Young, trb; Willie Smith, Earl Carruthers, cl,as,brs; Ted Buckner, Al Grissom,as; Joe Thomas,ts,cl; Ed Wilcox,p; Al Norris,g: Moses Allen,sb; Jimmy Crawford,d. The Vocalion label of the record credits this tune to Mooney. I've seen another credit as Hal Mooney and Willie Smith. The tune was dedicated to French jazz writer Hugues Panassie, author of a book called Le Jazz Hot. Mancini and Bricuse wrote a tune with the same name for the 1982 film Victor/ Victoria. This instrumental was recorded after 2 Trummy Ypung vocals, T"Ain't What You Do and Cheatin' On Me which were the hits out of the session.
