Bimbombey
Jimmie Rodgers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bimbombey, Bimbombey
On the way to Bimbombey
There's a hill on the way to Bimbombey
There's a house on the hill and a girl in the house
On the hill on the way to Bimbombey
A house on the hill and a girl in the house
On the hill on the way to Bimbombey
[Chorus:]
Jing-a-ling-a-lyoh (Jing-a-ling-a-lyoh)
Jing-a-ling-a-lyay (Jing-a-ling-a-lyay)
Jing-a-ling-a-ly, jing-a-ling-a-ly
Jing-a-ling-a-lyay-ay-ay
Jing-a-ling-a-lyay (Jing-a-ling-a-lyay)

There's a store in Bimbombey
There's a ring in the store in Bimbombey
That's where I'll buy the ring for the girl in the house
On the hill on the way to Bimbombey
I'll buy the ring for the girl in the house
On the hill on the way to Bimbombey

[Chorus]

Once I get to Bimbombey
You can bet I will stay in Bimbombey
That's where I'll settle down with the girl in the house
On the hill on the way to Bimbombey
I'll settle down with the girl in the house
On the hill on the way to Bimbombey

[Chorus]

Bimbombey

Bimbombey
Bimbombey

Overall Meaning

The song "Bimbombey" by Jimmie Rodgers tells the story of a man traveling to the town of Bimbombey to buy a ring for the girl he loves. The journey is described in detail, from the hill on the way to Bimbombey to the house on the hill where the girl lives. The chorus is a catchy repetition of "jing-a-ling-a-lyoh" and "jing-a-ling-a-lyay" that adds excitement to the song.

The lyrics paint a picture of a small, rural town where life moves slowly and the biggest event is a man buying a ring for his sweetheart. The town's name, "Bimbombey," adds to the playful, almost nonsensical feeling of the song. The man's determination to settle down with the girl and stay in Bimbombey suggests a longing for a simpler life.

Overall, "Bimbombey" is a lighthearted, romantic song that transports the listener to a quaint, idyllic town. The repetition of the catchy chorus and the vivid descriptions of the journey and the town make the song both memorable and enjoyable.

I was about seven when i last heard this song on a record at a neighbor girls' house and it stuck in my head ever since. Now thanks to YouTube i have finally heard it again just before i turn 72! What a nice birthday treat. 🎶💖 I'm still trying to find another record those girls played called "Johnny Wait for Me".

Thank u for sharing this song. I've been searching this song all my life coz this song is where my nickname "Bombay" came from. My dad told me when i was a baby every time when i cried then he turned on this song and then i stopped. After that every time he called me "Bombay" then i stopped crying as well.

I am driving home from work.  I am a nurse and drive one hour to and then back another hour from work.  I have finally found some time to listen to the radio.  So, there I was, halfway home and BIMBOMBEY came on my Sirius radio station.   Boy, his voice was so clear and beautiful.  Immediately had to call my husband.  When I got home I pulled it up on YouTube.  My husband, who knows all music, immediately said, 'that sounds like Jimmie Rodgers.'  I told him how much I loved listening to his voice, and the melody was heavenly upbeat, especially compared to todays tunes (YUCK).  All I can say is THANK YOU JIMMIE RODGERS-GOD HAS BLESSED YOU.-

@RollingEasy

So many of us are so so lucky to have lived in a time of truly beautiful music and entertainers..... I just want to puke whenever I hear gangsta rap or watch vids of female singers on stage doing squats in almost their underwear or when I know that some bunch of over paid brats with little talent are shoving drugs into their bloodstreams..... I sometimes have people freak out when I say to go take a look at Fred Astaire dancing with Rita Hayworth if you want to know the meaning of class, style, talent and sheer beauty in true performers.... Jimmy takes me back to my childhood and I've lived with his beautiful music all my life and I'm so thankful for that..... Along with so many others.... Jim, Pasty and Buddy to name but three. And so many more thankfully.
