The four-piece's commercial breakthrough came with the successful release of several singles from the album Bleed American (2001). Four singles from the album charted within the Top 20 positions of the Alternative Songs chart, with "The Middle" reaching the #1 position. Jimmy Eat World's follow-up album Futures (2004) featured another Alternative number one song, "Pain". The RIAA certified Bleed American platinum and Futures gold, rewarding the two albums for selling over one and a half million records between them. The band's sixth album, Chase This Light (2007), became their highest charting album, peaking at number five on the Billboard 200.

Caveman
Jimmy Eat World Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The 2x4's are making their way around.
The big get bigger when the fight's done.
I found that secret door.
A man with a shovel's gonna dig deep down
To find out where it feeds.
A house.
A catalog full of nothing good.
The big get bigger when the fight's done.
I found that secret door.
A man with a shovel's gonna dig deep down
To find out where it feeds.
A house.
It seems like a drag to be torn apart by unexpected hands.
It's in your name it's in your face I'm wrong again.
Jimmy Eat World's song "Caveman" is a hauntingly introspective song that explores the depths of the human psyche. The lyrics suggest a feeling of intense inner turmoil and a struggle to make sense of the world around us. The first line, "A monster lives in your backyard," sets the tone for the song, implying that there is something dangerous lurking just beneath the surface.
The repeated line, "The big get bigger when the fight's done," seems to suggest that success in life is not measured by the actual outcome of a conflict, but by the size and strength one possesses. This idea builds on the previous line, "The 2x4's are making their way around," which implies that the world is a harsh and unforgiving place where only the strong survive. The subsequent reference to a "man with a shovel" digging deep down to find out where something feeds adds to this ominous feeling of impending danger.
The song also touches on the struggle to find meaning in life amidst the chaos and confusion. The line, "A catalog full of nothing good," suggests a sense of emptiness and dissatisfaction with the world, while the White House pondering "no remorse" implies a lack of compassion or concern for the problems that plague society. The final lines, "It seems like a drag to be torn apart by unexpected hands. It's in your name it's in your face I'm wrong again," seem to suggest a sense of defeat, as if the singer has given up on trying to make sense of the world and is resigned to simply accepting his fate.
