in the middle
Jimmy Eats World Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's only in your head you feel left out
Or looked down on
Just try your best, try everything you can
And don't you worry what they tell themselves
When you're away.
It just takes some time, little girl in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be alright (alright)
Hey, you know they're all the same
You know you're doing better on your own (on your own)
So don't buy in.
Live right now
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough
For someone else
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the
Ride (over, and over)
Everthing, everything it'll be just fine (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be alright (alright)
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the
Ride (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be just fine (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be alright (alright)
Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out
Or looked down on
Just do your best, do everything you can.
And don't you worry what the bitter hearts, are gonna say
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the
Ride (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be just fine (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be alright (alright).
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the
Ride (over, and over)
Everything, everything It'll be just fine (over, and over)
Everything, everything it'll be alright (alright)
The chorus of Jimmy Eat World’s song “In The Middle” assures the listener that everything will be alright, even if it takes some time to get there. The lyrics address feelings of inadequacy and being left out, assuring the listener that they’re doing better on their own and to not pay attention to what others say. The verse emphasizes the importance of trying your best and not worrying about others’ opinions. The song encourages self-acceptance and living in the moment.
The line “Hey, don't write yourself off yet” sets a tone for the song’s message of believing in oneself. The next line addresses that the feelings of being left out or looked down on are only in one’s head. The following line “Just try your best, try everything you can” sets up the chorus’s repeated line “Everything, everything it'll be just fine.” This encourages perseverance and keeps the message of reassurance consistent. The verses say “Hey, you know they're all the same / You know you're doing better on your own / So don't buy in / Live right now” which encourages the listener to not buy into societal norms and expectations, and instead to focus on living in the present.
