Gravity
Jimmy Gnecco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Flying to the grave, crying to be saved, I somehow lost the day then I stopped
I felt out of place, my mind's in outer space, love was just a phase, then it died
Gravity, I want you to be here
Gravity, I want you to be here
I lost all my hair, from worry and from care, thought everyone would stare then I stopped
Love is everywhere, no one seems aware, no one seems to care, until they starve
Gravity, I want you to be here
Gravity, I want you to be here
If i can cry I can crawl, and start all over again

Did you wake up when you landed? Did you wake up when you fell? Either way it's what you plamted
Gravity, I want you to be here

Gravity, I want you to be here
If I can cry I can crawl, then start all over
The joy, all the pain, all of the things that we can't explain
The world's gone insane, starting at them through my window pane
And all that remains, everytihng will come back again
The joy, all the pain, staring at them, starting at them
Gravity, I want you to be here

Gravity, I want you to be here
If I can cry I can crawl, and start all over again

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of the song describe a sense of losing control and feeling disconnected from reality. The repetition of "flying to the grave, crying to be saved" suggests a feeling of hopelessness and desperation. The singer has lost track of time, indicated by the line "somehow lost the day," and feels out of place "my mind's in outer space." The mention of love as a phase that "died" could be interpreted as a failed relationship or a lack of connection with those around them. However, the chorus reveals that the singer is searching for something to ground them, something to hold onto - "Gravity, I want you to be here." The song suggests that the singer is seeking stability in their life, trying to find their own sense of gravity and get back on track.

The second verse introduces a new sense of anxiety, with the singer losing their hair from worry and concern that others will judge them. However, as the verse progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is realizing that love can be found everywhere, but often goes unnoticed. The lyrics "no one seems aware, no one seems to care, until they starve" suggest that people often take love for granted until they are without it. The chorus repeats the same plea for gravity, indicating that the singer is still searching for something solid to ground them. The song ends with the line "if I can cry I can crawl, and start all over again," indicating that despite the struggles and uncertainties, the singer is determined to keep moving forward.

Great, from the Heart! Another Richard Marx IMO. An original with a convincing presentation of what it is to be human. Five Stars. A retired Catholic priest in Canada. Perhaps Jimmy's Tattooed Body is a sign of his commitment to singing the Truth about the human condition. A Tattoo is indelible! Without his "mission" he would lose his identity. Jimmy is a sort of "Priest Forever". He is dedicated to Love and Truth. Is there a better calling or mission in life?
