His 1966 hit "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" was a major success and his most well-known song. He was offered a chance to sing with The Temptations, but he politely declined in favor of his younger brother, David Ruffin (born 1941; died 1991).

After the success of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted", the intended follow-up, "East Side West Side", was released only in Australia due to an argument with Motown head Berry Gordy. The song was written by Ron Welser and Flamingos' member Terry Johnson.

With his brother David Ruffin, Jimmy Ruffin released a popular cover version of "Stand By Me" (by Ben E. King), taken from The Ruffin Brothers' album, I Am My Brother's Keeper.

Jimmy Ruffin's other hits include "I've Passed This Way Before", "Gonna Give Her All The Love I've Got", "Don't You Miss Me A Little Bit Baby", "I'll Say Forever My Love", "It's Wonderful To Be Loved By You" and "Tell Me What You Want".

In 1980 he collaborated with the Bee Gees' musician Robin Gibb, who produced his album Sunrise. From it came the single which would be his last Top 10 UK and U.S. hit: "Hold On To My Love". In 1986 Jimmy Ruffin collaborated with the British pop group Heaven 17, singing "A Foolish Thing To Do" and "My Sensitivity" on a 12" EP record.

In the 1980s, Ruffin moved to live in Britain, where he continued to perform successfully. In December 1984 he collaborated with Paul Weller of The Style Council for his benefit single "Soul Deep." This went under the name of The Council Collective.

Following the 2010 release of his album I Am My Brother's Keeper, Ruffin began writing and recording songs for a new album that was never issued.

In 2012, a compilation album entitled, "There Will Never Be Another You", including his hit songs "What Becomes of The Broken Hearted", and "Hold On To My Love" had been released.

In addition to his brother David Ruffin (deceased), Jimmy Ruffin had three other siblings: Quincy, Rita Mae (deceased) and Rosa (deceased).

I'm new to Northern Soul and I'm only 27, I have learning disabilities and anxiety. But ever since living with my mum and stepdad they were the ones that got me into in, They taught me how to dance and I've learnt myself too, I go to Northern Soul nights with them and people who I meet always say I'm a good dancer, I reply with I'm still learning. I just feel connected with the music This is one of my fav songs. <3

This song reminds me of my dad who passed away on Xmas day 2 years ago. Brings me some comfort Every time I hear it. A mint copy ? There are only 2 known surviving copies of any kind afaik, out of a total possible 250 pressings that Wilson asked to be destroyed. A long way from being unknown at Motown btw - one of Motown’s most successful record producers including hits for Diana Ross, The Temptations, The Miracles , Marvin Gaye & many more.

@Bad Lieutenant: Gloria Jones also recorded the original "Gone With The Wind (Is My Love)." The same producer, arranger, backup singers, etc (the Tiaras), were then used as back up for Rita Graham. You can find both versions (Rita and the Tiaras' and Gloria Jones' versions on YouTube).

Kevin mate, you might have missed out for years but there are dances everyweek in hundreds of locations. There is bound to be one near you. It's never too late, dancers admire good dancers, that's true but no-one criticizes newbies. KTF

I love this video.....whoever's made it , well done, it captures the heart and soul of our northern legacy, especially the youngsters who can still drop and get back up without need of lifting aids! I designed my kitchen so that it had a level smooth danceable floor for when the mood got me, no dropping but loads of stepping and a few twirls till I get dizzy ! Keeping the faith in Cornwall 😘

If this clip get as many views as it does is because I cant stop coming back to it.
I see a generation trying to recapture it's youth and not as nimble as they once were. Albeit still trying to capture those memories of what seems like an age.

Do I Love You is by far the greatest Northern Soul record of all time. I would have loved to have gone to Wigan Casino. My brother (a DJ from a pirate soul radio station in the Sth London area) did and told me how great it was. Alas my brother died over 20yrs ago but Northern Soul lives on.

Love the dancing and this song is fantastic!! I use to dance like this back in the 80s and even now I do except I don't do the break dancing moves (sorry don't know the correct name of the moves!)
