Darn That Dream
Jimmy Van Heusen Lyrics

You say you love me and you hold me tight
But when I awake, you're out of sight
Oh, darn that dream
Darn your lips and darn your eyes
They lift me high above the moonlit skies
Then I tumble out of paradise
Darn that one-track mind of mine
I can't understand that you don't care
Just to change the mood I'm in
I'd welcome a nice old nightmare
Darn that dream and bless it too
Without that dream, I never would have you
But it haunts me and it won't come true
Oh, darn that dream
The song "Darn that Dream" by Jimmy Van Heusen is a composition that talks about the confusion and desperation that comes with a love that is not reciprocated equally. The singer appears to be in a situation where they are deeply in love with their partner, but every time they wake up from their dream, they are faced with the reality that their partner does not feel the same way. In the first stanza, the singer talks about how they dream of their partner every night, and in their dreams, their partner loves them and holds them tight. However, as soon as they wake up, their lover disappears, leaving the singer in agony.
In the second stanza, the singer talks about how their partner's lips and eyes bring them joy and excitement that lifts them high above the moonlit skies. However, this happiness is short-lived, as they come crashing back to reality once again. The third stanza shows the frustration of the singer, who cannot understand why their partner does not care for them as they do for their partner. They express their desperation for a change in the mood, even if it is a nightmare. The final stanza expresses the mixed emotions of the singer; the dream that they despise so much has given them the gift of love, which they wouldn't have had otherwise. However, it continues to torment them, as it remains unfulfilled and only a dream.

Wake up, everybody. This interpretation of Darn That Dream deserves more like a half million views. Ruedi is deep into this song on his sax and holds on a long time before giving Wayne a guitar solo. Then comes back in. I suspect the song has a special meaning to Ruedi. I feel your pain. I've got some too. Thanks for a masterful job.
