With a stable home life, Wayne went back to high school and worked his way through community college, earning an associate's degree in criminal justice. After working in the North Carolina prison system, Wayne moved to Nashville, practiced guitar until becoming proficient and put his life experience to music. Tracy Byrd cut one of his songs, "Put Your Hand in Mine," in 1998. His first single, "Stay Gone," was inspired by his sister Patricia, who was having marital troubles at the time. She told Wayne that everything would be better if her husband would just stay gone. Wayne released his self-titled debut album on DreamWorks Nashville in 2003. His recorded songs like; "You Are"- a song about his wife who's everything to him, "Paper Angels"- a Christmas song about lost kids and school troubles, and "I Love You This Much" - about a father's love to his son and the son is the one who loves his dad and the dad thinks he's hated. “Walk to Beautiful”. This is in the top 5 of my best books I’ve ever read! Everyone needs to read this book. And the fact that you LIVED it…..I have no words.💓🙏🏻💓
You were going to speak/perform live where my daughter works at Bethany Christian Services/Safe Families for Children in Manheim PA then COVID happened. My daughter read your book then gave it to me. I then passed it on to my 93 yr old mother and tomorrow I am loaning it to my 70 yr old brother and sister in law. Anyone who reads it has been changed in a positive way somehow and we cannot put it down. You are an amazing young man! I just got on YouTube to see if I could see you and hear you in a few videos that you had mentioned in your book.

Jimmy's book "Walk To Beautiful" is gut wrenching but wonderful. You'll need a full box of tissues.

Jimmy is not hard core country (which barely exists) but he's a lovely singer and songwriter and his book tore my heart out. I hope he keeps writing also.

If you want the hard core 70s wake-up passed out-country, then you have have to listen to Gary Stewart. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

Finished the book today. Loved it. This song was Jimmy’s first single. The music business was a fascinating aspect of the story. Jimmy’s life before - that part was painful. I just loved Walk to Beautiful. What a story this man has. Loved the pictures in the book. Ruby the Foster Dog was real. I got that book too and gave it to my school teacher daughter for her class. Truly Inspirational Jimmy Wayne Barber. Nothing but Love!

I just love to hear Jimmy sing like most of you, and I am always amazed to hear so many other people talk about how great this guy versus others who are far more famous. I have thought the same thing since I first heard him. I don't know if Jimmy just wants it this way or if the music machine is just working against him for some reason. I hear a lot of pop junk passing for country these days and virtually none of these people are at Jimmy Wayne Barber's talent level. It is hard to understand.

I spent my whole life protecting my sister from my parents and the things I had to go through. I know I failed and ill have to live with that for the rest of my life. But the day my sister left for college far away, I felt this weird relief. I thought it was something selfish but this song made me see it a completely different way. He must have bad management or the worst A&R person in Nashville working for him... I know Dreamworks Nashville folded... Scott Borchetta left and started "Big Machine" for Taylor Swift, but somewhere Jimmy got lost in the shuffle.. It's too bad. He's and incredible personal testimony of overcoming the worst personal hardship a person could have growing up, and he sings so good and with so much soul... I hope he finds his way back into the mainstream even if its's outside of Nashville and Country Music which is becoming more like Pop + Rap nowadays.

This song affects me in a good way, in fact it has helped me gain the strength and the words to say what really needed to be said once to my first husband. It hits me really close to home, My first husband was physically, emotionally abusive to the point of forcing me to break the law. It took 3 months but I finally got the leave I needed, he went to jail for something unrelated to what he was doing to me. Jimmy Wayne's Cd is one of my favorites :) I luv this song!! I bought this cd when i first seperated from my husband, I listened to it over and over again. Now I'm recently divorced & as much as i would like to stay friends with my ex...it's best for him to "stay gone!" This songs says exactly how I feel. Found his book "Walk to Beautiful" (heartbreaking!!) at a thrift shop last week, the first I have heard of Jimmy. I just read where Patricia and Jimmy listened to this song together across the miles the first time it played in his hometown, so I had to come listen. Wow, he has a GREAT voice! This song sometimes reminds me of my ex. He's still in my life because our daughter lives with me and while he at times gets on my nerves, I've learned to accept him how he is. I divorced him for a reason, and I no longer resent him for not changing for the better. Acceptance of someone releases a lot of pent up feelings that need to go away. It's healthier that way, and easier to move on.

this song is helping me out with trying to forget this one beautiful girl i have ever laid eyes on. Vickie I bought the book and read it because of FF show, now I am checking out his music. The book starts off a little slow (he wrote it with a professional writer) but soon enough you get Jimmy's authentic "voice" and it gets going real well. I can't recommend it enough.

Haven't listened to this song in awhile until today, when I played it for someone. He "ghosted" me when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. So, today I get a SURPRISE phone call from him. And this was my answer to his question of "how are you doing, now?"
