Mitch Mitchell was so unbelievably soulful. Best rock drummer by far in the 60s. He wasn't just loud and busy but could have a very subtle jazzy touch. He was the perfect drummer for the GREAT Mr. Hendrix.

My wife got mad at me because I spent too long in the museum. If you are ever in Seattle, make a trip through the museum. You will enjoy it.

"Are You Experienced" (1967) Is one of the albums where heavy metal guitar began, the way he manipulated distortion, feedback & effects in general was pioneering AF. For my money the greatest drumming performance in the history of recorded pop/rock music. He's barely playing a beat, it's all over the place, the whole way through, yet it's never too fussy or too flashy or too shambolic. It's not in the background, it's not a solid foundation, it's every bit as musical and lyrical as the guitar. Mitch Mitchell is man-of-the-match in this one, and for a Hendrix record that's a big ask. Very underrated

totally. ive been doing this song as part of my classic rock set for 15 years. drummers always play the dumbest straight beat with no fills no fun no nothing. they never memorize the changes they just play a beat off of cues they're just not into it. i really wish i could find serious players with passion. its a rare quality in musicians today. people say they can play but they barely understand what it is to be a "player". mitch was a monster he served jimi and his music like he should have like a real player with passion. that's why jimi chose him.

When I first started playing drumset at age 13 I fell in love with Jimi and Mitch's playing which still blows me away with his vocabulary. Seemingly simple but so understated in how he creates variation after variation expanding the theme and taking it up a notch each time.

Well, he was that--but many geniuses have been junkies or started out as junkies (and did their best stuff as junkies)--then they come down and try to imitate what they'd done when they were off in some other universe. If they're lucky (and famous), they get some good back-up musicians who can do what they used to do, and they go out on the road and do a "come back." Others go back to being junkies and OD.

I've experimented and listened to a hole host of music ranging from Electronic dance music to pop music, Metal to soul/funk blues and jazz, flamenco and classical stuff like Mozart and Bach and even stuff from far eastern cultures...But nothing ever hit me so hard as the day my day took a little 10 year old me on a car journey and played this to me for the first time. My young and naive little mind was blown into a thousand tiny little pieces. I go through various phases of listening to different types of music, but i'll always keep coming back to Hendrix...the guy and his music has a very special place in my heart
