Armatrading has mixed eclectic musical styles over decades of recording and performing. She has had several British hit singles, the biggest of which were "Love & Affection", "Me Myself I", and "Drop the Pilot". Her music is generally pop, with forays into rock, folk, jazz, and even reggae. Her popularity is primarily as an album artist.
She gained a new audience following her writing and performing "The Flight of the Wild Geese", which was used during the opening and end titles for the 1978 film The Wild Geese.
Armatrading first performed in a concert at Birmingham University for her brother at the age of about 16 (circa 1966). She only knew her own songs, but her brother asked her to perform something that would be familiar to the audience; she chose "The Sound of Silence".[9] She then performed her own songs around the local area with a friend from school, and played bass and rhythm guitar at local clubs.

The seven seas
I'll ride I'll ride I'll ride
The seven seas
I'll ride I'll ride I'll ride
The seven seas
For you
The highest peak
I'll climb I'll climb I'll climb
The highest peak
I'll climb I'll climb I'll climb
The highest peaks
For you
I'll chase I'll catch I'll bring the moon to you
There's not a thing you know I wouldn't do
I'll beat of any challenger who tries to
Steal
You
Away
From me
Yeah
Everywhere and in between I see your face baby
Everything I do
I do to make you happy
Maybe I try to hard
But I can't resist
Such a beautiful face
Such a beautiful face
You're fine you're fine
You're fine you're fine
Every part of you is like a diamond
Precious to have
Expensive to keep
But the night's treasures
Is alright by me
Yeah
Da da da
A part of me will always be with you
I don't mind the weather
I don't mind the rain falling
It doesn't matter if it's sunny
Or there's clouds up above
I'll take a chance and I'll predict
That we will always be in love
Whatever life throws us we will catch
We will catch with a glove
I've got a hunger for you baby
I just can't get enough.
I don't mind the weather
I don't mind the rain falling
As long as I'm with you
I'll ride I'll ride I'll ride
The seven seas
I'll ride I'll ride I'll ride
The seven seas
For you
You're fine you're fine
You're fine you're fine
Every part of you is like a diamond
Precious to have
Expensive to keep
But the night's treasures
Is alright by me
Everywhere and in between I see your face baby
Everything I do
I do to make you happy
Maybe I try to hard
But I can't resist
Such a beautiful face
Such a beautiful face
You're fine you're fine
You're fine you're fine
Every part of you is like a diamond
Precious to have
Expensive to keep
But the night's treasures
Is alright by me
The song "Diamond" by Joan Armatrading appears to be a love song with the singer expressing their willingness to go to the ends of the earth for their lover. The repetition of the lines "I'll ride I'll ride I'll ride the seven seas" and "I'll climb I'll climb I'll climb the highest peak" emphasizes the singer's commitment to their lover and their willingness to do whatever it takes to make them happy. The image of diamonds appears throughout the song, with the singer calling their lover a "diamond" and referencing the preciousness and expense of having and keeping diamonds, but also noting that the night's treasures are alright by them.
The chorus repeats the lines "You're fine you're fine, every part of you is like a diamond." This image of diamonds further emphasizes the preciousness of the lover to the singer. The following lines "precious to have, expensive to keep" suggest that the singer recognizes the value of their lover, but also acknowledges that it takes effort and investment to maintain a relationship.
The song also includes a sense of determination and perseverance in the face of potential challenges, with the singer proclaiming that they will "beat off any challenger who tries to steal you away from me."
