Armatrading has mixed eclectic musical styles over decades of recording and performing. She has had several British hit singles, the biggest of which were "Love & Affection", "Me Myself I", and "Drop the Pilot". Her music is generally pop, with forays into rock, folk, jazz, and even reggae. Her popularity is primarily as an album artist.
She gained a new audience following her writing and performing "The Flight of the Wild Geese", which was used during the opening and end titles for the 1978 film The Wild Geese.
Armatrading first performed in a concert at Birmingham University for her brother at the age of about 16 (circa 1966). She only knew her own songs, but her brother asked her to perform something that would be familiar to the audience; she chose "The Sound of Silence".[9] She then performed her own songs around the local area with a friend from school, and played bass and rhythm guitar at local clubs.

But tonight is all that's on my mind
My baby's here
In my arms
You know we've got it bad
Cos tonight we've got the love virus
We've both come down with the love bug
I hope yous guys don't catch this
Cos it knocks you right off a your legs
Love bug
Talking bout love bug
I said love bug
You know I mean love bug
Let me explain the symptoms
First of all there's hardly any pain
With the love bug
You kind of lose you memory
You see
Hear
Think
Talk
Dream
Care
Just for one person
Only
Don't come down with the love bug
Cos it drives the sense
Right out of your head
This thing strikes in a curious way
It only hits when you're not looking
Don't stand close to anybody
Who'll contaminate you
If you come down with the virus
Well you'll never be alone again
We've both come down with the love bug
And it means we've got to stay in bed
I hope yous guys don't catch this
Cos it knocks you right off a your legs
Love bug
Talking bout love bug
I said love bug
You know I mean love bug
I said love bug
Talking bout love bug
Yeah love bug
You know I mean love bug
Yeah love bug
Talking bout love bug
Yeah love bug
The song "Love Bug" by Joan Armatrading is an upbeat and playful tune about a couple who is absolutely smitten with each other. The lyrics suggest that they are so in love that they have both caught the "love virus," or the "love bug," which means they don't want to leave each other's arms. The song paints a picture of two people who are truly in the moment and savoring the time they have together, not worrying about what tomorrow may bring.
Armatrading explains that the love bug strikes in a curious way, only hitting when you are not looking. As the song progresses, she talks about how this love bug affects those who are infected. It makes you lose your memory, only being able to see, hear, think, talk, dream, and care for one person. The love bug knocks the sense right out of your head, but it also means that you will never be alone again.
Overall, "Love Bug" is a joyful celebration of love and the feeling of being swept off your feet by someone special. It encourages listeners to enjoy the present moment and let love take over their lives.
