Armatrading has mixed eclectic musical styles over decades of recording and performing. She has had several British hit singles, the biggest of which were "Love & Affection", "Me Myself I", and "Drop the Pilot". Her music is generally pop, with forays into rock, folk, jazz, and even reggae. Her popularity is primarily as an album artist.
She gained a new audience following her writing and performing "The Flight of the Wild Geese", which was used during the opening and end titles for the 1978 film The Wild Geese.
Armatrading first performed in a concert at Birmingham University for her brother at the age of about 16 (circa 1966). She only knew her own songs, but her brother asked her to perform something that would be familiar to the audience; she chose "The Sound of Silence".[9] She then performed her own songs around the local area with a friend from school, and played bass and rhythm guitar at local clubs.

Some things are gonna be hard
But don't let them put you off your stride
Cos you could make your mark
You're gonna get married
You're gonna be rich
Your gonna have all the things you ever wished
You know you're gonna pull
You could be the savior of this wicked world
Some times you gotta be smarter
You've got to play to win the game
Don't let them make you give up
Right before you can begin
Going to the moon
Win a peace prize
Discover there's life on the other side
You're gonna get slim
Make a new friend
You can do what ever you think you can
People are gonna wanna tell you
Don't try too much
They're gonna warn you
About disappointment but
You're gonna prove yourself
You're gonna prove yourself
You're gonna prove yourself
You're gonna prove yourself
You're gonna tour the world
You're gonna write a book
You could be the one who finds life on Mars
You're gonna be happy
Listen to the voice
You can do it right
If you make that choice
To prove yourself
You're gonna prove yourself
You're gonna prove yourself
You're gonna prove yourself
You can do anything
You can do anything
You can do anything
You can do anything
You can do anything
You can do anything
And you're gonna prove yourself
You can prove yourself
You can prove yourself
You can prove yourself
You can prove yourself
You can prove yourself
You can prove yourself
You can prove yourself
And you're gonna prove yourself

I swear I looked for this song just a couple months ago here on YouTube, with no luck. Well, what do you know. Joan at her best. I will never understand why she never caught on here in the states. Just another British treasure pretty much unnoticed by lazy Americans. That's right. An American calling you other Americans out. What are you going to do about it?
