Armatrading has mixed eclectic musical styles over decades of recording and performing. She has had several British hit singles, the biggest of which were "Love & Affection", "Me Myself I", and "Drop the Pilot". Her music is generally pop, with forays into rock, folk, jazz, and even reggae. Her popularity is primarily as an album artist.
She gained a new audience following her writing and performing "The Flight of the Wild Geese", which was used during the opening and end titles for the 1978 film The Wild Geese.
Armatrading first performed in a concert at Birmingham University for her brother at the age of about 16 (circa 1966). She only knew her own songs, but her brother asked her to perform something that would be familiar to the audience; she chose "The Sound of Silence".[9] She then performed her own songs around the local area with a friend from school, and played bass and rhythm guitar at local clubs.
So Good

Kissing late at night
That's what I wanna do
With my little baby
All right
See me take that love
And hold it tight
Just as in the day time
Get my smile
Candles round the table
In the pale moonlight
Blackcurrent and jelly jars
Can't hold the sweetness
Sugar itself
So nice
Been said before but I feel it's right
And when I'm waddling old
Still wanna be there
High and mighty Oo
Old but gold
Love is you
So good
I'm a hopping onto a passing cloud
I'm sailing off to a heaven
Defines kissing you
The sun's up above
Way up
A hot burning sun
Cooking up love
Making love
The song "So Good" by Joan Armatrading is a love song that speaks of the deep feelings of love that the singer holds for her partner. The lyrics are soft and tender, reflective of the timeless sentiment surrounding love.
The song speaks of love as the central theme, with the singer expressing her desire to cuddle in the morning and kiss late-night with her partner. This suggests that the singer is interested in a long-term relationship with this person and is willing to put in the effort required to keep the spark in the relationship. The singer hints at the physicality of their relationship by using the metaphor of holding love tight, and she speaks of the importance of smiling in the relationship.
The singer also talks about the sweetness of love, comparing it to blackcurrant and jelly jars. She also speaks of the value of love, saying that it is "old but gold" (i.e., precious and timeless). The song ends with the singer dreaming of a future in which she is still with her partner and still in love, saying that she will hop onto a passing cloud or sail off to heaven to be with them.
Overall, "So Good" is a beautiful love song that speaks of the deep feelings of affection and adoration that a person can hold for their partner. It is a reminder of the power of love, both in the present and into the future.
